We know.
It's the Milankovitch cycles. They correlate remarkably well with the ice ages. I mean, the fit is not a perfect R=1 but that's likely due to solar flux variations in combination with earth's orbit, tilt on its axis, and precession.

Have any of these predictions come true? Aren't we supposed to be underwater, dead from acid rain, in an ice age, and burned up by the ozone hole by now?
