when people ask why we decided to have so many, I always answer one of 2 ways

I am clinging (very tenuously) to the idea that this country simply has so many more people and social media / 24 hour access is the reason we hear so much mental illness.
I hope that there has always been a subset of dumbasses that just didn't have as much access to hear and be heard with respect to their psychosis.

Yes - Stupid and crazy people used to rarely be in a position where anyone outside of shouting distance could hear them. Now technically the whole world can have access to their thoughts. Jus because you have a platform doesn't mean you should be taken seriously. Sadly we don't have that mentality as a society.
