If you feel like you’re crazy because the other side disagrees with you, that’s you having a weak mind. That’s not “gaslighting” someone in an abusive relationship

You are quite clearly uninformed about critical theory. It explicitly treats truth claims as power plays and nothing else. Look up repressive tolerance and then get back to me.

Most of the time, the purpose of the culture Marxist’s mendacious tricks is not to convince anyone but to DESTABILIZE the existing structure to bring about the utopia.

That’s fine. That doesn’t change the fact that it’s not “gaslighting”. It’s just lying and misinformation.

Well, I think you’re missing the point. It’s more than a lie. It’s layers of lies whose intention is to change your perception of reality, or actually to deny reality itself, and doing so by attacking you for having a different opinion.

Lie:
2+2=5

Gaslighting:
You filthy racist! How dare you deny my existence and do violence to me with your patriarchal privilege by denying my lived experience that tells me that 2+2=5!!!!

That's not it at all. The term has a very specific meaning. It means to pretend something that is happening, isn't actually happening. It's based off a movie where the husband turned down the gas lighting (among other things) then when his wife complained about it being dark he pretended the gas lights were perfectly bright and it was all in her head. He was trying to drive her insane.

Look you are free to use the phrase however you want. It’s fairly harmless and liberals and leftist use it about everything that comes out of Trump’s mouth too. I just think the whole applying therapy buzzwords to normal shite that everyone deals with is embarrassing. There is nothing more normal than thinking that the media and politicians are lying to you

Non-sequitur my arse!

Critical theory, aka American Maoism, is exactly what people are experiencing that they are calling gaslighting. They know it’s more than simply lying. It’s postmodernist destabilization of rational thought.

All true, but critical theory can be used as a technique for perspective, and perhaps illuminating underlying motivations. For instance, Prof Kennedy reaches many of the same conclusions about the power structures of the legal system ( and the incestuous schools that feed them) as many posters do here based on instinct and observation. Critical Legal Studied just applies a formalism on the analysis

It can, and does, lead to solipsism and absurdity, but if used artfully can also provide another lens on which to evaluate

politicians (and arguably some in the media) are certainly misleading the public in any number of ways. They are not “gaslighting.”

He says in a gaslighting attempt...

Funny...all I could think of is how he ignores how we live in a world that people are trying to say girls can be boys and reverse. I think of Orwells..."up is down, evil is good" point as gaslighting.

I think what you’re missing about critical theory is that most people haven’t been destabilized because of Marxist academics. They’ve been destabilized by the internet. Twenty years ago, when the internet was new, critical theory existed; but our society seemed more stable. Why? Because most people still got their news from cable, and an impactful blogosphere presence still required some sort of credentials if they were going to get promoted into mainstream spaces. And people looked at the internet when they had a quiet moment in the evening or when they were bored at work. And then before we could adjust to that, almost everyone on earth got the internet in their pocket and now all of us are constantly being exposed to a million takes and a thousand set of facts and all of us are drowning and destabilized as a result of that. Are bad actors using it to their advantage? Absolutely. Does that mean you have been gaslit? No. It doesn’t

People can disagree with you and be objectively wrong and it’s still not gaslighting. I would bet money that people in San Francisco and Portland had wildly different beliefs from us in 1990 as well, but no one had to care because it wasn’t on your phone 24/7

Not an example of gas lighting. Reread the explanation in this thread, it's correct.

Not the criterion.
Gaslighting is duplicitous manipulation by perps to sow self-doubt in targets. Classically, it is an actor for one side behaving horribly under pretense of playing for the opposition team.

That certainly could include targets thinking they might be crazy. Glenn Youngkin followers without a racist bone in their body seeing a group of Tiki Torch "racists" claim to be part of the Youngkin election effort, might suddenly think they'd been insane for supporting Youngkin in the first place.

In reality the TikiTorch brigade were neither racists, nor Younkin supporters. They were Democrat actors. The TikiTorch BS was a failed gaslight.
