Here's a Freudian slip...

quote:

All Republicans voted against a procedural vote on the legislation, which combines two major election bills. The result was a 49-51 vote after Schumer, D-N.Y., changed his vote to the prevailing side so we could offer a motion to reconsider. All other Democrats voted in the affirmative.

The Republicans really need to hammer home that the vote to keep the rule was bipartisan, including the Majority Leader.

Explain, thoughtfully, why any of these things is a bad idea?

"The voting rights bills would have expanded voter registration with automatic and same-day registration, increased access to the polls by expanding early and absentee voting, and created new criteria for determining which states must receive pre-approval from the Justice Department or U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia before enacting laws that would affect voting rights."

Let's be real. Republicans don't want everyone to vote. They win when fewer vote. They win because the Electoral College is a ridiculous byzantine way to determine a president. There was no voter fraud that impacted the election in 2020. None- thrown out of court by Trump appointed judges time after time. Just because he's a poor loser and the cult follows his lead doesn't make it so. This shouldn't be an Orwellian reality.

Make election day a holiday. Let everyone register and vote however they want, early, in person, by mail. Have non partisan election officials certify - like we do today!

Surely no Republican will flip on their party right? Hard to fathom the stupidity this would require but Romney is a royal idiot. And there are a few more that compete with his stupidity.

Why not opine on the bill itself instead of someone's opinion on the bill?

Hey - why not just put a bushel of ballots out on public tables every day - then anyone who passes by can grab one and drop it into an official tally box.

Everyone has to swear they are who they say they are - and they only voted once - and the were really registered where they voted.

easier for all.

I think there’s a couple things republicans all agree on which they should never relent to and that is:
Every person should have to show an ID to vote
If a registered voter wants to mail
In their vote they should have to submit a request for that ballot. Just auto sending to every address makes less sense than not requiring an ID.
Early and absentee voting rules have been around for decades and have worked well this entire time. Don’t allow changes to be made there cut to Covid or some other ridiculous excuse.
States should be in charge of their elections, not the federal government

If he votes to get rid of the filibuster, he'd never be able to go back to Utah.

If you are registered to vote and your signature matches your ballot, why does it matter? The entire state of Utah (and others) vote by mail. Do you think that's a bad idea? Funny how conservatives used to love vote by mail until they realized that making it easier for all to vote (legally!) would harm them.

That's the whole point.

It was up to the PEOPLE OF UTAH to vote by mail, not Chuck Schumer.

Yes major bad idea as it creates a commodity, which rewards organization, $, and social pressure over free will democracy.

Democrats can’t win without cheating or rigging the system. Their entire agenda has been a catastrophic failure.

I don’t understand why there would be a need for any day of registration to be able to vote. Election is in November. If you will want to bite, register before November. Doing anything like this last minute really seems like it lends its hand to lack of validation. No matter what side you’re on this doesn’t make sense to me. It’s not like it’s a secret when the elections will be.

But that's not what they want.
