But but but muh historically unpopular president.

Clearly, this is because of NK summit, btw.

Gallup: Donald Trump's weekly job approval jumps to match the highest level of his presidency at 45-50 (was 42-54 last week).

The only time his approval has been this high on Gallup was the first week of his presidency, when it was 45-47.

And that's with the media producing nearly nonstop negative stories about the man and his presidency.

Imagine if they reported fairly.

45-50 despite the media. Imagine if he received the coverage Ol'Big Ears did, he'd be in the 70's.

trumps average on RCP is now down to only -6.6. if he stays near the 45% approval mark then he should be safe come 2020

Yes, but I think a lot of it was because his voters (young people and non-whites) did not show up to the polls when he wasn't on ballot.

His approval ratings in 2010 weren't bad....they averaged around 45-46%. It wasn't why he lost 63 seats.

When many of the people wanting to elect a black president didn’t show up for midterm elections? Yeah, he did.

If you think that’s going to happen to Trump, bless your heart.

the tea party movement was in full force too that year. it helped the repubs gain a lot. I dont see the dems have any sort of coalition like that currently that will help them

The DNC and their platform got clobbered.

People who wanted a black president thought it prudent to provide more congressional oversight to his presidency and agenda.

I lived in a district with a den representative in 2010 and he was ousted because people wanted Pelosi out of power.

Oh definitely.

Anything below 50% is bad IMHO.

It certainly played a part in it.

PRINCETON, NJ -- Presidents who retain majority job approval from Americans at the time of midterm elections are much less likely to see their party suffer heavy seat losses than are those with sub-50% approval ratings. Since 1946, when presidents are above 50% approval, their party loses an average of 14 seats in the U.S. House in the midterm elections, compared with an average loss of 36 seats when presidents are below that mark.

I thought obama was only a so-so president fwiw. I didn't vote for either election. I do prefer him to Trump though.

I disagree.

If you're approval rating is in the 45-49 range, I think that is enough to get reelected if you factor in the notion that some voters who disapprove of you will still vote for you if they disapprove of the challenger even more.

I don't think it is unreasonable to expect a president with a 46% approval rating to get 50% of the vote in a reelection campaign.

Obama got 51% of the vote in 2012 despite his approvals hovering around 44-48 for most of 2012

Because of ObamaCare. That disaster completely changed the American healthcare industry forever and it most certainly was not an improvement at all as it completely crushed small businesses and eradicated flexibility in plans for the average American.

Trump deos not have any such law that's hanging like an albatross on his neck.

Trump is different from Obama being that his policies are very popular while the man himself is not very popular.

I think you can win with your approval rating that low, but it depends a lot on other things. In 2020, it is highly unlikely someone has hated as clinton is trump's opponent. Although it could be possible for them to re-nominate clinton. Dems can be stupid.

I really think all that matters in 2020 is the state of the economy. If the economy is as good or better as it is today, trump wins. If its worse, he loses.

I disagree with your conclusion, but I am more astounded by how you flout the rules. Any dissenting view of Trump MUST be expressed in terms of hyperbolic outrage and unreasoned emotion.

The Lefzis will be coming for you soon. Good bye.

This.

Trump is the inverse of Obama. Policies are fairly popular but the man is not. Obama was the complete opposite. Comparing 2018 to 2010 is apples and oranges.
