It’s sad how effective the leftist lies over the Vietnam War have been for over 50 years. The truth of the matter is we did not lose the Vietnam War. In fact, it was a crushing military defeat for North Vietnam.
Our victory really started with the 1968 Tet Offensive. This was the first time the NVA and Vet Cong came out and engaged US forces in open conventional combat. The result was the Vet Cong was completely destroyed as a cohesive force and the NVA was left crippled. Almost all NVA battalions, over 100, that were committed to the offensive were destroyed in the abortive offensive. The communist forces achieved none of their objectives, and the hoped for “popular uprising” in the South never materialized. In fact, communist forces were so badly mauled they were not able to try another offensive for another four years.
The next time North Vietnam tried an offensive was in 1972x known as the “Easter Offensive.” By this time most American ground forces had left Vietnam, though substantial American air assets were still there. The Easter Offensive was launched by the NVA in March 1972 and lasted six months. When the offensive was halted, the North had suffered another staggering defeat; this time at the hands of the South Vietnamese Army. The South had proven they were willing and able to defend themselves successfully against North Vietnam.
Following the failure of the Easter Offensive, the US resumed heavy bombing of North Vietnam in mid-December 1972, known as “Operation Linebacker II.” This operation was launched to convince North Vietnam to resume peace negotiations, which they did in late December. Peace talks resumed in Paris with the Paris Peace Accord being signed in January 1972. This peace treaty ended the Vietnam war.
So the US ended the Vietnam War in January 1972. The South was still independent and free. Fast forward a year and a half later where the Democrats in Congress passed the Case-Church Amendment in June 1973. This new law prohibited any US military assistance to South Vietnam. So, Congress totally cut off South Vietnam from all military aid, which at that time the South Vietnamese armed forces were wholly dependent on US military equipment and supplies. In essence, a little under a year and a half after we successfully ended the Vietnam War, we turned our back on our ally South Vietnam.
Meanwhile, the USSR did not turn their back on North Vietnam. In fact, within weeks of the signing of the Treaty of Paris, the Soviets began pouring military equipment and supplies into North Vietnam to rebuild the decimated NVA.
By Spring 1975, a full THREE YEARS AFTER THE END OF THE VIETNAM WAR, North Vietnam launched a new invasion of South Vietnam in March of that year. The Southern armed forces were in pitiful condition by this time, having been cut off from all military supplies for almost a year and a half by that point. The result was communist forces overran South Vietnam in a little over a month.
To believe the lie about the US “losing” the Vietnam War, you have to ignore everything that happened between 1972 and 1975 and pretend the South didn’t defeat the North in their 1972 Easter Offensive, the North didn’t sign the Paris Peace Accords, and the US Congress, under total Democrat control, didn’t cut off South Vietnam from all military supplies while the Soviets completely rebuilt and supplied the NVA.

Its a political loss.
It also can be directly attributed to govt lies and misdirection. There was very little transparency, and when it came to people, they were shocked.
The media fills in the blanks when the govt isnt honest.

The only way to say that is to ignore the fact that:
1. We ended the war in January 1972
2. Congress voted to cut off all military aid on South Vietnam in June 1973
3. North Vietnam invaded the South in March 1975, a full three years after the end of the Vietnam War.

The dishonest way the media portrayed the Tet Offensive clearly illustrates the media made up their own narrative.

It absolutely was a political loss, and cost at least one president their job.
The military wasnt to blame, the politicians fricked up this war badly.

Lyndon B. Johnson’s decision not to seek re-election in 1968 was a direct result of the Vietnam War, but it was not the only factor in his political downfall.

By early 1968, Johnson expected to win the Democratic nomination and then re-election easily, confident in his “Great Society” legislative achievements, a booming economy, and the belief that the U.S. was winning the war. However, the Tet Offensive in January 1968 shattered that optimism. Despite the North Vietnamese and Viet Cong failing to capture major cities, the scale and ferocity of the attack shocked the American public and undermined the administration’s claim of progress. Polls showed a sharp drop in public confidence: support for the war effort fell from 50% before Tet to 33% afterward, and 49% of Americans said the U.S. should never have intervened

The loss came after we’d already won the war. That’s what’s so infuriating about the Vietnam War. We won the war in 1972. But Democrats in congress threw away that victory in June 1973. The final act came in the Spring of 1975 when the North, resupplied by the Soviets, invaded the South who stood no chance because Democrats in congress cut off all their military aid.
That’s where the loss came from, but it only came after we’d already won the war.
ETA: Roger, you can put your useless downvote on it all you want, what you can’t do is refute any of the facts I’ve laid out in this thread. So take your down vote and shove it straight up your arse.

I think we view "win" much differently. The Soviets killed far more Afghans than the reverse, but still "lost."
Military handcuffed by politicians is a terrible thing.

Define win. You guys complain people are neocons yet you expect wars to completely take out a country in a war.

A U.S. general once told the head of the NVA that the U.S. had actually won every tactical battle in Vietnam. The Vietnamese general replied, “maybe, but it’s irrelevant”. That’s pretty much the story of that war…

Then you agree we won the war in January 1972 when we forced North Vietnam to sign the Paris Peace Accords. And then Democrats in Congress threw away that victory by cutting off our ally South Vietnam from all military assistance a year and a half later AFTER THE WAR HAD ENDED.

Nah, they were worthless. Never ratified, and it was violated immediately and often.

Gallrein is spot on about the draft being a war deterrent. Few people oppose war when they don't have to fight it themselves.
Posted on 5/14/26 at 1:14 pm to DyeHardDylan
can't believe there are retards out there who think we should replace Massie with this idiot
Posted on 5/14/26 at 1:16 pm to DyeHardDylan
Personally I'd love to have a draft and I expect it. I'm surprised it hasn't happened already what a perfect way for the government to have all of the youth under their thumb

To the last man? No. Was Japan completely neutered and isolated industrially and militarily? Yes.
