I don't know the solution, but I don't feel good about our government making promises, then re-negging on them because of a change in leadership.

Even if the leadership changed because of an election? I'm glad we got our of our trade agreements so far, and want more strict immigration laws. Which is why I voted the way I did, for things like DACA to stop.

Go bring your kids to Mexico and see what their government does for them.

They gotta go back

And fricking stay

Kid comes here, spends their whole life here, and becomes a productive, taxpaying member of society. If you actually think sending them back to Mexico is reasonable then you are a piece of shite. No doubt.

I would let them stay, but they'd have to get in line with all the others already in the process of trying to get legal immigration status.

So, what you're saying is, firstly - you would allow them to remain in the country, and secondly - you would provide a path for them to seek legal immigration status while doing so.

Tell me... how is that not amnesty?

The fact is that those here illegally under the age of 18 and fitting this randomly assigned criteria for DACA should not be allotted any rights granted to citizens that are not allotted to other foreign nationals here.

The solution is simple. There is not full amnesty. They are granted a special version of permanent resident status that requires 25 years prior to application for citizenship if at all.

They should in no way be allowed to break the law (even if it wasn't their "choice") and get full benefits out of it.

Again, they can be given permanent resident status, with no right for any sponsorship for another person's permanent resident status except for a spouse. Furthermore, if children are born here for them and gain citizenship, they cannot sponsor their parents to shift off of that specific permanent resident status to the standard one.

Having a heart doesn't require you to spit entirely on the face of your laws.

Are they paying their entire tax liability? They clearly weren't when they got a free education that is supposed to be provided only to Americans and legal immigrants and visa holders.

Unless they pay back every cent of US taxpayer money they used while here illegally, they should not get the right to citizenship, period.

You do this by creating a separate status for them equivalent to permanent resident status but without any ability to actually get citizenship.

They can leave and try to reapply from abroad if they want to go through the traditional path, or if they stay they sacrifice that long term prospect.

Just so you know. You just said you are not in favor of full amnesty. And then, in the very next sentence, said that you are in favor of amnesty AND perhaps even a path to citizenship.

So if a stranger walks in your house, do you call the cops, or do you feed, clothe, educate, and medicate them?

Just trying to figure out if you're as generous with your own money as you are with other people's.

Just think of all the good they can do in Mexico with their fine American learning. Plus they won't have to pay those pesky American taxes.

The next bargaining chip will be full citizenship. 2028-
If DACAs do the work to gain citizenship, get in line, and make it happen, 2028 is about the correct timeframe. If given a Green Card, many (perhaps most) won't apply for citizenship.
