I wanted to maybe provide some insight to everyone that doesn’t have their finger on Alabama politics to help explain how this happened.

This was a special election to fill the seat vacated when Sessions went to Washington. The problems began there. Our pathetic and senile Governor Bentley was under an ethics investigation that was supposed to be conducted by Luther Strange. That investigation was dropped and Bentley appointed Strange to Sessions seat. Strange is a GOP lap dog and should be in jail.

Fast forward to the primaries for the special election. In the beginning there was a field of qualified candidates. Personally I supported Mo Brooks. The GOP decided to put all its efforts into squashing all the competition while supporting Strange, completely disregarding the fact that the People of Alabama did not support Strange. That led us to a run off between a Crook in Strange, and a controversial Roy Moore. This state never wanted Roy Moore. The GOP caused this whole situation by trying to force their lap dog through. I’d like to think this is a wake up call but I doubt it.

I don't blame people for not supporting Strange. That was such a painfully obvious quid pro quo corrupt move on his/Bentleys part. Mo Brooks is great and would have been best, but he has zero name recognition outside the greater Huntsville area.

In the end, it is the voters who take most of the blame. They know who Roy Moore is, and they still voted for him.

No.
and that is the travesty.

The WashPo sat on a story through the primaries in order to deny Alabamans the opportunity to "know who Roy Moore is."

As an outsider the only thing I’ve gathered from this whole fiasco. Is if you took your whole story and Bentley was a Dem governor in a blue state and this unfolded Dems would’ve still voted lock step in putting in a Dem.

After looking at past Bama senate elections. Roy couldn’t remotely garner the typical votes Sessions and Shelby won. Jones got about 100k plus than the typical Dem average, a chunk of that you can attest for cross over vote.

In 2020 Jones will lose and Bama will go back to being a red state. I expect that Roy is out of the picture. Bama GOP will go balls to the wall to do everything to get rid of Jones.

Could have had plenty if it wasn't for millions poured in to defeat him by Turtle and crew.

He doesn’t get a full 6 year term. He gets 3 years.

Unless Alabamans have been living under a rock, they've always known what Roy Moore is about.

And now he has two years to start gaining it, if in fact he's a good candidate.

From what I've learned on this board about Alabama GOP politics, Brooks (if he does things right) can portray Strange as the lapdog of the Establishment and Moore as a total embarrassment to the state.

Start gaining some endorsements from professional groups, preferably those where you have a large number of small businesses (many of those owners are also active in civic and religious groups so you can make inroads there too).

You left out a few key details. After Bentley appointed Strange, he announced the special election for the seat would not be until the 2018 midterms. A lot of legal experts cried foul on that claiming it was in violation of state law. It was going to be challenged, and then Bentley resigned. Gov Ivey then called for the special election this year.

Voting for all things communist? Yeah...you're so informed about this race, you don't even understand what a special election is.

Joke's on you, pal.

Only 3 years. He has to run again in 2020 since Sessions was re-elected in 2014.

Big Luther Strange was the one person Bentley could not afford to appoint if he wanted to avoid looking corrupt.

Sooooo......

Really?

So Alabamans should have known things which Roy Moore's most bitter opponents did not? The seeming veracity of the Corfman allegation has 'always' been known? Allegations of the Yearbook Woman have always been known?

Really?

Mitch, Trump, and the entire GOP backed Luther Strange in the primary. They pooled efforts. They wanted Moore painted as a loon. But even given that, somehow supposedly known criminal accusations of Corfman and Yearbook Woman never surfaced? Seems to me McConnell would have played that card loudly and often if he'd known about it.

Yet Alabamans should have known? That is fascinating.
