It’s not necessarily because government is suppressing it. It’s because society itself is suppressing it. Not only can people not have an opinion that varies in anyway from that of the left, but you’re also bad if you just stay away from political opinions.

here is your mistake. No one is saying people aren't allowed to have an opinion. The problem is people think their opinion should be just as valid as someone who has more experience and education on the subject that is being discussed. And that attitude is patently false

There are absolutely people that think that others are not only wrong, but are bad for expressing opinions that are different than theirs or for not expressing an opinion at all. I’ve seen someone I know post multiple times that someone is part of the problem if they don’t share an opinion (an opinion that matches the left’s) about current events.

People want to be accepted by those around them and it alters their behavior. That goes back to Psych 101 re: positive and negative reinforcement.
The most fascinating case I ever read was about a college class that conditioned their professor. Everyone in the small class was in on the scheme.
When the prof moved to his right during lecture the class was attentive, looked at him approvingly and asked great questions.
When the prof moved to his left the class looked bored, fidgeted in their desks and never raised a hand to ask a question.
By the end of one month the prof was delivering his entire lecture from the right hand corner of the room.

This is an anonymous message board. I am an ardent Trump supporter. I do not agree with BLM. I believe in hard work to achieve what you may have. I believe in the responsibility of parenting in the outcomes of children. I read the FBI crime statistics and see that there is little or no "systemic rascism" in the way blacks are treated compared to whites or other ethnicities. I support Drew Brees passion in favor of the American flag and what it stands for. Try expressing these beliefs or any other non left-wing beliefs in public and see what happens.
