What is the point of harassing him once he's out of office? They'll be setting the precedent that presidents of different parties can investigate and harass each other even when they're out of office. No one wants that.

To ensure no one ever dares challenge them again. Their base will demand it. Trump could run again in 2024. Probably some other reasons I’m not thinking of.
I’m not sure it would actually happen because Biden is fairly moderate but I promise you a major chunk of the media and Dems will push Biden to investigate Trump hard.

Think it’s pretty smart in one way. You don’t want ex presidents being investigated by opposition party for hell of it, as there’s the precedent set with this investigation.
Now that being said, if the evidence points directly at either then the DOJ better investigate it to the fullest.

There was no "consensus" here.
In fact, it was the exact opposite for most here that Barr wasn't a Blackwater Swamp denizen and was actually going to "investigate" and bring to justice "all" of the collaborators.
While those whose existence is free of the "political optative" (viewing and interpreting reality/the world according how one wishes it were) recognized immediately from his comments when he first came on the scene which screamed out what he is.
One of his early comments from Jump Street was that his investigations "would be done within that of an "Administrative Review."
He's a prototypical "Captain Hedge."
However, there's a special consideration when it comes to Obama.
They all cringe in crippling fear up there at just the prospects of what would happen in the nation's streets were he held accountable for all that what now seems to be connecting to him.
Expect more "hedging."
