OP's buddy never even tried until that boot got near.
Big difference.
I do agree that the process should be clear and executable in a reasonable amount of time.

Sounds like he has a wife who is an American citizen, so he’s good.
I think just about every sitcom in the 80s had this as the plot of an episode

Get that $5K or whatever the reward is. Let an American have that blonde haired blue eyed woman.

That’s exactly what’s happened, and I told him he’s had plenty of time. Kind of left the convo on a sour note but it pissed me off bc he’s got kids.
I know if it was me in a foreign country I would have worked on getting citizenship the day I touched the soil. I just don’t understand it.

Within the past year, my daughter in law found the same out. It was a mix up in her adoption at a young age. She now has a green card and is moving toward her citizenship.

Illegal immigration is why longer than a year. It absolutely destroys resources, not just monetarily.

I didn't get a driver's license when I turned 16.
Didn't feel like it.
Now that cops are cracking down on driving legally,I guess I need one after 30 years of being illegal.
See how dumb that sounds?
When comparing this to being brought over by your illegal parents and your parents always telling you to be careful or risk being deported... yes, it sounds REALLY DUMB

It is incomprehensible... especially with children, as you pointed out.
This thread is a useful glimpse into the mindset even 'good, working illegals' might have. They Just Don't GAF.

Very good point!

There is no such thing as a good illegal
They all knowingly chose to break our laws, they chose to be criminals

Doesn’t that mean you want them to be citizens much sooner so they don’t drain resources?

Fealty to Mexico.
Had a friend in the 6th grade who immigrated from Belgium, whole family was Citizens by High School.
European immigrants basically follow the rules and protocol.... South of our border and Asia, not so much. But it makes sense, can't break into a Candy shop and then apply to be manager.

This is what has me shook, the dude has a favorite team in NFL, MLB, NBA. Posts about American sports on social media all the time. Doesn’t even have a Hispanic accent.
If somebody like that doesn’t give a shite about gaining legal citizenship then I can’t imagine the ones I see at Walmart who can’t speak a lick of English think.

Agreed, hence the ' '.
Although one group I'd make some allowance for are those illegally brought over children that are in the midst of coming of age- it'd be good to have a separate program to evaluate them and expedite them at little cost.
*and then deport their parents

Huh? I think you're missing the point. Think of it like trying to fit an elephant through a mouse hole. There aren't enough resources to do ANYTHING because of all of the illegals. You can't just slap a sticker on hundreds of millions people coming through illegally and say "have a nice day"

This is THE problem. They come here, make little to no effort to fully assimilate, then expect all the same benefits as those that did it the right way, or whose ancestors that did it the legal way

For the kids it’s sad, but they only have their parents to blame. Watch any of the LA clips. Loads of them “we’re here for our parents” shite
They don’t have allegiance to America. And they certainly won’t after we tell their momma and daddy to go back to Mexico

Overstayed his Visa? Upstanding law breakers are still law breakers. That means he is a criminal.
Taxpayers covered his schooling?
