how do EV drivers deal with sitting in traffic on the interstate for hours.

They're fine in traffic. There's no engine to idle.
No but that AC, radio and all that other stuff still draws on the battery. Unless you want to turn it off and roll the windows down every time you are able to creep up 10 feet.

Those are minimal power draws. The only one thats going to have a significant impact is the thermal management system when it's really cold outside. The others draw very little power.

No offense, but a Tesla Model 3 isn't a Ford Lightning.
Right but it's more a statement on how infrequently people use public charging. Which holds true across OEMs.

I'd focus on ICEs and plug in hybrids.
Agreed. The interesting part is that a lot of the R&D you need to make an EV you also need to make a good PHEV. I think the magnitude of the right down is more a sign of them wanting to take some losses, especially considering the raised EBITA guidance.

Ford needs to fire Jim Farley, he’s been a disaster.

So Ford can write off 19.5 billion for fairy dust trucks but they couldn't invest the two billion dollars that chip manufacturing startup requires to make their own chips.
Further proof that auto manufacturers and a whole bunch of other industries gouged the frick out of us during covid.

The write down wasn't just for the F150. It was for:
8.5B for future models that they will never make now (mostly R&D)
6B to buy out of a JV for battery cells with SK
5B in other expenses (marketing, legal, retools, etc.)

They also raised guidance at the same time.

I believe they will do a hybrid type using the ICE to charge the battery. The idea of an EV truck was ridiculous.

Or use their great expertise with truck building to build one < $20 k. I love looking at the new Rangers .... at $35 k .... lol.

This is some of the best news I’ve heard recently.
I cannot stand this EV movement and want it dead & never come back.
The long term environmental concerns with the batteries, the wear and tear on our roadways etc…
Now let’s get “corn” out of our energy sector for fuel, get rid of the other enviro rules for car making etc.

You burn up so much more fuel just idling to have the air conditioner on in an ice car compared to having the ac on in an electric. Not even close. (Teslas for example could last 2-3 days with AC and radio on)
The fact that some of you think that sitting in traffic for a few hours is impossible or even difficult shows you know nothing about ev’s.

The range on the E F-150 was shite. There are no charging stations.

I saw a mustang ev the other day for the first time at food lion. Was wild. Doesn't an ev mustang defeat the entire purpose of buying a mustang?
But just for full disclosure, they are torque monsters. It's like having giant drill motors on the wheels. The acceleration is supposedly very impressive. It would make for a fun toy, not a practical tool.

I think the range for all of them is shi t if one drives cross country. If someone commutes 40 miles a day or takes occasional drives to Target, they are okay. I see all kinds of Teslas out there. They get the same mileage as a Mach E.
CyberTruck gets the same range as a Lightning. If you want more mileage they would have to add more battery. More battery equals more weight. So I guess the magic trade off is 300 miles. If that. Like I said, if I want to trailer a boat 100 miles, I will just buy another truck.
