Ford Motor Co. announced on Thursday that they intend to begin reopening some of their plants on Apr. 6, as the iconic automaker hopes that the coronavirus pandemic will not sideline their business for long.

GM and Chrysler have not issued any possible schedule for resuming operations at the present time. If all goes according to plan, Ford will re-open the Hermosillo Assembly Plant on Apr. 6 for one shift. It would then open many more facilities across the country on Apr. 14.

I'm guessing the $24/hr UE payments are scaring the hell out of a lot of companies.

All it takes is the big boys saying frick it. We going back to work and then all the little guys follow. Governors won’t stand a chance if they fight the big money.

And so the rebirth of America begins

That is great news for me. The company, that 1 of my trucks is contracted to, is one of Ford's Main suppliers. That truck has been shut down.

Big time companies need to make big time decisions. I applaud them.

Been a Chevy guy my whole life, and it's not hard for me to admit that Ford is on point here.

Are people really in that close of quarters in an automotive plant? I'm surprised they were shut down at all and not considered an essential business in the areas they operate.

I know of one other major employer that plans to re open April 15th. I expect we will see companies begin to follow along with the big players if all goes well.

Let's be honest. We can start integrating sections of the economy back into the workforce. A few hundred guys can go into a ventilated aircraft hanger and get back on the assembly lines, especially when a lot of those guys are wearing respiratory equipment anyway. Just pay someone to zap them with a digital thermometer before they walk in the door and wipe down door handles and common areas with disinfectant.
Right down the street at the Kroger or Walmart some single mom is getting $9.00/hr to scan checkout items and handle cash from 500 proles who are pawing and coughing on everything and some kid is making $7.00/hr to put it in plastic bags. And we can't shut these places down.

I hope there is demand for the product

Last hurrah for collective bargaining before the robots take the rest of their jobs in the aftermath of all this

Time for others to follow suit.

ironic... considering it's the mexican plant they're discussing re-opening.

Not so ironic, if they are in the chain of parts supply, and building parts. You would need to build up a stock of parts, before you start building cars. The parts supplier would start before assembly plants.
