MO did that too, for us using printed ballots.
The electronic machine would print out the receipt that we took over to a scanner. Had all of the selections they picked printed on them.

If there is a problem with something on the outer envelope you get a letter in the mail letting you know what the issue is. You can go to the registrar’s office and correct it or there is a chance it won’t be counted
