What programs were these? "Just say no", and...?

Talk about bedrooms!! Really progressives want the gov out the bedroom unless it's bringing the checkbook! "Free birth control"!

Literacy was Laura Bush's thing.
I don't recall her issuing edicts.

Ok.
So, keeping kids off drugs and literacy programs are exactly the same as telling businesses where they can/can't donate their money, right jeaux?

Considering about 20% of Americans ages 6-19 are obese and that sugary drinks are a major contributing factor, if no the main factor, in childhood obesity I'd say this is a wise move.

So no Coke sign on the score board will fix this?

First it started with cigarette advertising. "Oh, it's for the safety of the children". Now it's junk food. Pretty soon they'll tax the shite out of fast food restaurants.
Are you defending cigarette ads?

Coke spent $2.5 billion dollars on advertising in 2007. You think advertising doesn't make a difference in sales?

Agreed. You think they shouldn't have some regulatory rights for public safety or health? Repeal laws that limit children from buying cigarettes and alcohol? Traffic laws? What else?

This is so egregious, pointless, and above all silly.

You can take this to the bank. They could BAN sugary drinks and 20% of Americans ages 6-19 will still be obese. What next?

Cigarettes and Alcohol are different animals. I know you are smart enough to know the difference. Kids don't drive. Parents make decissions for children. The problem isn't the advertisement. If the parent didn't buy coke, they'd buy some other brand...that's why Coke spends so much in ads.
Single parent households are bad for public safety...you going to go after that next big guy?

Why not just have govt-run grocery stores that dole out nothing but organic carrots and green tea for the masses?
See I can make stupid comments and draw ridiculous conclusions too

Did you seriously just equate a coke ad as the same as advertising adult beverages and entertainment ads? Really? Are you that stupid to not see the difference?
Posted on 2/26/14 at 10:00 am to Upperaltiger06
Yes. I don't see any reason cigarette companies shouldn't be allowed to advertise publicly just like alcohol companies do for their beverages
Posted on 2/26/14 at 10:13 am to deltaland
If we are banning sugary drinks, we need to ban fast food advertising...
