Such BS. Mandate membership and unnecessary dues and fees, then use member money to take political positions. Sounds a lot like mandatory union membership which has been stricken down.

Am I reading this right, you have to be a member of the LSBA to be an attorney in Louisiana? I dropped membership in the ABA and Memphis Bar Association several years ago, I finally dropped the TBA this year.

That’s what I’m wondering. You are required to pay and be regulated by a body that has no oversight and spends your dues to support their own views without any input of the entire body? If Louisiana or any state has a system like the LSBA we need much better lawyers and patriots joining the profession.

Save your paper or time on your computer. In the end they will do what they always do ....maintain the status quo as much as possible....oh, they will seriously consider it......for 30 seconds.....you want to really change it? Have the legislature which is Republican act like fricking Republicans

Seems like the state legislature and Louisiana as a whole would be supportive of changes to the LSBA if presented. I’d gladly send some emails and call representatives. LSBA blows. I’d also be interested if there is any data available about whether they seem to regulate SU grads at a different rate then LSU/Tulane grads. Given the difference in the pass rate, seems like that would be a damned if you do damned if you don’t situation.

One of them is working on a movement toward a voluntary bar.

Do you have to pay dues? This sort of garbage is why I don’t pay anything to my field's professional organizations.
