I'm thinking net drain on society. Article makes no mention of how they provided for themselves for 35 years.

After 35 years in America, they should have enough money to live like kings in Colombia. They should be thanking us for increasing their relative wealth.

You feel good about this?

Absolutely!

I asked a Physical Therapist how she and several others
from the philippines, how she came to America.

She said, my mother told me I had to get an education in a needed craft if I wanted get to America. So I studied, got my certificate and applied.

You need a work ethic and skill in a needed profession.

They were all born here. Trump tried to end that gravy train but one of those DC judges stopped it. .

You’re either legal … or you aren’t.

Does not matter if you are “exceptional “

Despite what the article above implies, it doesn’t take 35 years to gain U.S. citizenship. Inexcusable irresponsibility on these people’s part.

So many opportunities they passed up. Gaining citizenship would have been doable almost anytime over the last 35 years. It’s their own fault.

While the couple tried numerous legal avenues to remain in the country over the years, including appeals to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the Board of Immigration Appeals, a spokesperson for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement told The Orange County Register that the Gonzalezes had “exhausted all legal options to remain in the U.S. between March 2000 and August 2021,” and were ultimately in violation of immigration law.

Why were these attempts not successful?

I had one our welders who went through the citizenship process the right way....took him 8 years. He kept his family in Mexico the whole time and then moved them here when he gained it. Immediately put his wife in the process and she gained her citizenship.
Unfortunately, he left our employ for a better opportunity. I recently heard that he got his engineering degree....at 50.
Truly the American dream.

Yep used to work with a guy from Uruguay- if took them 8 years, also. That seems like way too much time.

I'd like some details on what exactly prevented them from getting citizenship over the last 35 years.
