Cool story. All of those are funded by taxes.
So if I have to pay for it, then so should federal workers.

holy schit bullwinkle! now i've seen everything!
you're pretending you're a federal employee, which you're not, you're pretending you have money saved in "investments" care to be more specific.
here's the bottom line jane, any early with draws from a 401k are taxed as ordinary income and subject to a 10% penalty which they with hold that money from the withdraw. 59 1/2 is the earliest you can take with draws.
now you know how things work in the real world

Unfortunately, when you work for the Federal Government, this is what happens sometimes. There are politicians who control when and if you get paid, unlike the private sector. You are being paid with American tax dollars and your job, in most cases, is not contingent upon how well you do your job. So, I guess it's something you have to deal with.

Shutdowns happen often enough that they should have a reserve fund.
Posted on 11/6/25 at 10:53 am to RFK
Now I see something that makes sense.
This idiot “RFK” is a Federal worker, lol, it all comes together now.
I wouldn’t lift a finger to help any cause for a Gov’t worker, more than 50% of you need permanent cuts & the other 50% are mostly incompetent.
Only ones that deserve to get a coat check are FAA & keep the airports rolling, the rest are just leeches on our coattails.
Frick off RFK, nobody cares about your payroll

This is where you lost me. You already know you will get back pay, and every company is offering deferrals. How much do you really need to withdraw from investments, particularly those with short term gains?
Posted on 11/6/25 at 11:16 am to RFK
Nope. They should be taxed and penalized just like any one of us commoners would be if we were to dip into our investments to cover a period of time without income. No special treatment. Just like in other cases - NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW.

Nope. Governments should never educate children. It becomes indoctrination. I bet you were publicly educated. Not federal anyway.

Militaries
We pay too much anyway, but by all accounts the biggest thing keeping us safe is not only the two big, blue bodies of water on both sides, but what would be the largest insurgency ever seen.

Social benefits for those without means
Not my fault. Shouldn't be my burden unless I choose to give freely. If I suffer forced charity through taxation, I refuse to give freely.

This is corporate welfare. You are arguing for corporate welfare? Not a good look.

he's a federal worker, that finds plenty of time to post on the poli board during normal working hours.
they never really think this schit through.

You seem to not have a grasp of what is federally funded and what is funded by states and municipalities. And, as much as you'd like it, the federal government has no authority to spend a single red cent on education, fire departments, etc.
Roads: Federal government is to provide some roads, but not all
Fire and police departments: Federal gov't has no constitutional authority to spend money on either of these (outside the boundaries of the District of Columbia)
Militaries: Federal gov't has authority. State gov't has authority for National Guard
Education for children: Absolutely ZERO federal authority to spend on this
Social benefits for those without means: Although legislation has been passed, there is no constitutional authority for this
Judicial system: Federal courts only
Taxation and revenue system: Fed has this authority but it sure isn't contributing to the livelihood of many folks
Public utilities: Public utilities are not public. They are privately owned and exist to make a profit for the owners and holders
Take this entire list and put it... Well, I'm sure you have a good idea of where it should go.

Couldn't you do a 401k/457b loan and then either increase future contributions to match or pay back the self loan pre-tax?
Federal workers can get a loan from the federal TSP. If paid back, it is not taxable. Just as the OP has requested. As long as it’s paid back later per the rules.
So what the OP wants…. Already exists. I’m floored he doesn’t know that.
IF he is truthful about his employment and not faking to attempt people to write their reps to help the Dems get their huge spending to partially prop up their own failed Obamacare and are going to blame Trump on adding to the deficit.

as soon as they stop taxing social security. it is also double taxation. the tax was already paid when they took it from our paychecks for 35 years.
get out of Trump's way for tariffs and we can eliminate a lot of taxes. abolish property tax, and NO LOCAL SCHOOL TAX unless you have kids in school.
Blame Shutdown Schumer and Temu squinted eyed Obama; and all of the snotty R and D establishment rolling in the deep and dough with USAID going no where to help Americans-- and SS payments going to 200 year olds.
are you proud VA govt workers voted in a man that called to assassinate his opponent and their children?

Take a loan from your 401k and then pay it back when you get your furlough pay, no tax or penalty.
