Sorry, been on the phone finishing up the workday.

Actually, it is the semantics of your poor word choices.

Little of both, probably. I didn't adequately define "real" vs. "fake" in my original post, and I think that's the crux of our current disagreement.

quote:

If the guy sent fake bombs, then they were hoaxes, by definition

Right

Exactly.

quote:

if he sent devices intended to be bombs, but weren't real bombs due to his incompetence

Then they were defective bombs. i.e., real ones that malfunctioned due to his incompetence.

quote:

then they are not ”real bombs"

Incorrect. They'd be real bombs, but inoperable.

That's my question to the FBI. Were these bombs that were supposed to go off, but didn't (i.e., "real,"), or devices containing devices that were never meant to explode (i.e., "hoaxes")?

I'm just trying to figure out what the FBI is telling us RE: is this guy an incompetent bomber or good at deceiving folks? From Wray's quote, it sounds like the FBI is saying that these were bombs that failed to explode.

I gotta go pick up Q and hit the gym. Y'all have a good one

FBI describing intent not to be a hoax

I agree but the PVC with no timing device is a hoax along with the hoax white powder which was probably baby powder.......

But I think the FBI is a hoax for not saying they were fake bombs just like the powder....

It's not like he tried and failed and then tried again and failed, etc. 14 times. He made 14 or more devices that all failed in one attempt. He either didn't intend them to explode (a hoax) or he tried to make them real but didn't follow the bomb making directions well enough. The FBI seems to be indicating they think it is the latter.

Agree.

I take this quote to mean they believe he intended the bombs to be real. That may be based on some evidence they have or may be so they can charge him with crimes that carry a stiffer punishment. Not sure.

I agree with the above, but the original had the word, fake, in it.

If Mr. Crazy Guy sent fake bombs, then the bombs were hoaxes.

This is 100% true.

Even your resident Muzzie goat fricker can get one to explode once in a while.

Shiit. Even the random high school student in chem class has an accidental explosion every now and then.

But not this guy? A guy that meticulously searched and found the home addresses of several politicians and celebrities and soros...couldn't figure out how to make a single working device?

A small 4th of july sparkler would've been more dangerous than the toys that guy sent out.

Look, this still isnt true. Let me explain it real simple

A really retarded Texas grad makes a fake bomb using only a tuna fish can and play-doh. But he is so dumb he thinks it is real and it will work. He mails that fake bomb to his smart distinguished A&M grad neighbor thinking it will blow up

Even though the bomb was fake the entire time, it isnt a hoax

no it didn't. Check tbirds first post. Slightly different, which matters in a semantics debate.

Why don’t you ask the recipients?

Whatever this is, it has to beat being on the losing end.

OK, you and I have a different understanding of "fake".

No no, I only replied to a specific post. It had fake in it. My reply has nothing to do with tbird.

Then they don't know for sure. They could say it also seems like a hoax since none of the bombs worked couldn't they. I guess the only person that knows for sure is the kook but something tells me we will never hear it from his lips ourselves.

I think y’all are assuming something fake means it was “known fake”

People have items all the time that are fake that are unbeknownst to them

If this guy knew the bombs were fake, then yes, 100% it’s a hoax

Sure. If I hand you a gun with no firing pin, you have no idea.

No one handed this guy "fake" bombs. If that did happen, it's not been reported.

This isnt debatable. If this guy wanted his devices to explode, and in his mind they were made to explode, this isnt a hoax

Actually it is unless I missed something or unless you can read his mind. I have yet to see anything where he sent them and in his mind thought they explode.

So with your argument if the guy wanted to send them as a threat to scare people with no intention of them ever exploding in his mind then it was a hoax. Got it.

Most crimes have an element of intent that is proved by evidence without any mind reading.
