I can assure anyone on this board who still wears one or knows someone who does that unless you have a proper fitting mask made of hospital grade materials you are just wasting your time and smelling your own breath for absolutely no reason. Paper masks are for spit droplets or splatter, not filtering the air and homemade cloth masks are utterly useless

Shortly after the anthrax scare, the Army tested various household materials that could be used to make improvised masks in the event of a major terrorist release of it. Basically found that something made with multiple layers of microfiber could provide limited protection but only it had a near perfect seal to the face. Which is the same limitation of any face covering, even military-grade NBC gear, efficacy is dependent on a complete face seal. Covid had back alley sweatshops in every 3rd world shite hole pumping out masks too, pretty most of those were contaminated with things far worse than Covid too.

Gov. MeeMaw in Alabama made us wear mask while the surrounding states didn't have to wear them. One time I went to Tennessee and was wearing mine in 2020 and getting funny looks. I realized it and took it off asap.
