So, crony capitalism propped up by junk science.

Not much has changed.

Dragging this thread back up for some questions.

1. Does anyone know the state's stance on this? We have a couple hundred acres that are just begging to make more money for us than corn/wheat.

2. What sort of infrastructure is in place for a farmer in La to get this to market?

3. In the federal legislation was there any sort of certification process that has to be accomplished first?

Hemp, the strongest natural fiber, will be re-legalized federally after nearly a century of criminalization.

This is a big deal!

The greatest lip balm I've ever used is Hemp Lip Balm from the Bodyshop.

It's a good crop. When my grandfather bought a neighboring farm plot in northern Illinois, there was an old crop field full of it. He tried to get rid of it, but the plants were too hearty to plow under. He called and reported the field to the feds, who came in with super sized tractors to dig it out and burn it in the field. He always called it "rope hemp.'

This is more significant than 99% of folks will understand. Hemp is a renewable resource that has hundreds of applications.

And hopefully it cuts in to us growing too much fricking corn.

Simple really....Harry Anslinger owned a lot of Timber which wasn't worth as much with a competitor such as hemp being around.

His buddy DuPont had created synthetic fibers and the first man made fiber and they needed their competition to go away.

He also had supporters in the pharmaceutical bidness whom hated that people could grew hemp/mary jane on their own and also wanted that competition gone.

Harry, the first drug czar, went on to make marijuana illegal ,after the reefer madness stereotypes were put out there, which in turned made hemp illegal.

And here we are.

Eta....it was never about Mary Jane and her sexy lil trichomes. As always, it was about greed.

Folks growing outdoor marijuana will have to hope for no neighbors growing hemp or start growing indoors.
