China-dishes maker Lenox is closing its last factory, in Kinston, N.C., and will make all of its products through contract manufacturers abroad.

quote:

Factory furloughs across the U.S. are becoming permanent closings, a sign of the heavy damage the coronavirus pandemic and shutdowns are exerting on the industrial economy. Makers of dishware in North Carolina, furniture foam in Oregon and cutting boards in Michigan are among the companies closing factories in recent weeks. Caterpillar Inc. CAT 4.49% said it is considering closing plants in Germany, boat-and-motorcycle-maker Polaris Inc. PII 6.87% plans to close a plant in Syracuse, Ind., and tire maker Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. GT 7.44% plans to close a plant in Gadsden, Ala.

Stupid decision to shut the economy down. All positive gains made from the Trump economic policies are now eroded, likely permanently. There will be no quick V recovery.

Some of these don’t make much sense either, like Goodyear. How is there such a decline in tire demand?

This virus hoax has been the mother of all false flags. This was an orchestrated and coordinated attack on our economic system in an attempt to influence the election. There are people who should hang for this bullshite

The Gadsden Goodyear plant was going to close soon anyway, I think it is an outdated facility. The Covid shutdown just gave them an opportunity to go ahead and do it.
I think a lot of the employees are being relocated to other plants.

Not sure it was stupid, D. If Trump had allowed the Virus to run it's course, with a status quo scenario...a LOT of folk would have died and the MSM/Dem Party would have run Trump out of office. Rock and a hard place.

The Government can either pay people to work via a massive Infrastructure Bill (NO STATE BAILOUTS) or it can pay people to lay up. The gate has been opened, the cows have bolted the lot...one way or the other, the 'government' will be the future arbiter of much of what was formerly a Private economy. Dems love this. That's why it was and is so critical for Trump to do whatever it takes to win. The Dems (Transnational Progressives) have clearly shown their colors.

The Goodyear plant has been winding down operations for a couple of years. At worst, Covid may have hastened the closure. I would not have included it as a Covid casualty.

The media baited Trump into shutting down the economy.

Yeah, I'm going to need a source for this bold claim.

I have picked up at The dish factory in Kinston. It's not a huge factory, and doesn't have a lot of employees, and they don't get paid very much either.
I'm pretty sure "abroad" means China.

Considering the virus was here for 2 months sprreading to a population with zero immunity and bodies didnt pile up, id say the death count would probably be similar...and the virus would be starving out by now due to the number of immune people

Sucks. I own a small company that provide predictive maintenance surveys to manufacturers and one of our routine clients has shut ifs door for good. Many others are saying don’t come in until we tell you to because we arent making any money and have to keep all contractors. Then there are my clients that are doing good but won’t let us come in because if the virus.

Agreed.

For now, yes.

Not so sure. Some signs are then pent up demand and stimulus may work.

Read all articles with a grain of salt. I think some companies are going to leverage the shut-down to trim some fat. That fat may be plants that either have poor union contracts, upcoming negotiations that don't look promising, major maintenance on the horizon, less automation, what ever it may be. Now is an excellent time for companies to look really hard at all options on locations.

Gee, I wonder what part of "abroad" they will be made in? The China part? Chinese china? IBReeman will certainly be happy.

Maybe, but has given the mother of all campaign opportunities. Conservatives and moderates will not blame Trump for China's doing.

This 100% due to shutdowns a zero to do with the virus. Total deaths this year due to flu,cv etc. as a group are at normal levels.
