It's a big problem for Asian Pacific nations much more than Europe. This affects their chemical and plastics manufacturing in a big way. Naphtha for their ethylene crackers. Propane, Butane and Ethane along with gasoline, diesel, kerosene and base oil for lubricants.

This is a complete 180 from what Trump was saying just "two weeks" ago. Its amazing how MAGA will conform or contort to anything Trump says.
Two weeks ago Trump assumed Europe would aid in securing the straight, especially since goods flowing through the strait are far more important for Europe than the US.
Trump was wrong. So now he sees no need to worry about securing the straight, if the countries who are impacted by it the most refuse to assist.
I mean it's not hard.

Sounds like Trump may not have to bother with the Strait if Iran caves as it appears to be happening.

This is a shite show, but leaving now at least allows for time to save face before midterms. Gas prices are gonna be sticky

Don't be sour that Trump is about to force Iran to negotiate. It's coming. And it's impressive to make such a stubborn regime even consider that!

Europe will be paying a steep price for not assisting in this.
Are you saying the US can't beat Iran without the help of Europe? If not, why do we even care if they get involved or not? Who tf goes into war and hinges success based off of uncommitted support from other countries?

Glad he is backing away from that. Let the rest of the world deal with that. Middle East needs to learn to police themselves anyways. Finish figuring out what to do with preventing a nuke, then walk away from this Iran situation satisfied. The rest is not our problem.
This is an astounding and apparently pervasive outlook here.
I cannot imagine supporting (a) starting a conflict, destroying shite, and directly causing the closure of the waterway and then (b) just throwing up hands and saying “not our problem”.
No—it is our problem. We made the mess, without informing or including the Europeans. If we wanted their help and cooperation, we probably should have asked for it and not just constantly tell them to frick themselves.

I wonder what our perspective would be if the EU unilaterally invaded Panama, damaged the Canal, then popped smoke and said “oh well, we don’t really need it. Why are you refusing to assist!?!”

We did not do this. Iran did this, they could respond in other ways but chose this..

Uh, you do realize that we were in negations with them in February, right?
Like I said, maximum retardation.

First off you need to understand the difference with direct and indirect.
Iran DIRECTLY closed the waterway.

A response that was 100% known to every nation on earth in the event of attack.
We knew going in that anything we did would disrupt trade in the strait

It’s funny, a week and a half ago, the board consensus was that the Strait was not closed.

Basic cause and effect. Call it what you want. It’s a mess of our unilateral making.

A big difference with that is....we did zero damage to the waterway. Iran is doing all that.

This is justification for making Iran not exist as it does today. Can’t let nutbags Muslims control major trade routes.

So If I punch someone at a bar and they leave and come back to shoot everyone in the bar. Who gets the murder charge?
Blame Iran for closing the Strait. No one else.
