Trump told the Conoco CEO that the U.S. government is not looking at recovering the assets the company lost during the 2007 nationalization.
You think those assets still exist?

I mean, he's not wrong. There has to be tremendous groundwork done in that country before I would just say yes to investing the time and resources. The basic component of safety has to be foremost the most important aspect. No telling how much gorilla warfare will come from that region with no clear leadership and the overall lawlessness that those in charge are used to.

It was a silly statement. If Venezuela had the largest tourism industry in the world he would have a hotel there.

That's exactly what the CEO of Chevron, who is currently the only U.S. E&P in Venezuela, said. Even Mike Wirth, who begged President Trump and worked with him to allow Chevron to keep operating in Venezuela even with the sanctions, has said as of now his company is more going to stay the course rather than rashly ramp up extra capital spending in the country. Venezuela's oilfield still has to compete with the rest of Chevron's portfolio, which just absorbed Hess.

The administration’s actions have put US based multinational o&g companies in a difficult spot.
This is what I don't understand. The planning for our conquest of Venezuela probably started the day Marco Rubio became Secretary of State.
Why weren't we planning for the aftermath at the same time?

How do you know they haven’t? They cut off Cuba, Russia, and China’s largest supplier and you all still whine. It is amazing to watch. Leftists all of a sudden cheering for Russia and China because OMB.

once again, trump has no plan, no idea what he's doing

Ideally, we would have oil company commitments ahead of an abduction of a country’s president

Run. Through the logistics with me. How would these contracts be out in place without word getting to Maduro?

Can't blame them really.
Whats going to happen if another weak democrat gets elected and lets their investment get nationalized again?
Cant really have a stable environment when democrats are trying to undermine the country.

… you’re thinking first order. Taking a victory lap for first order predictions that have no real merit to the 2nd and 3rd order implications that matter is… certainly something.

And Continental, via their CEO Harold Hamm, longtime Trump supporter and donor. Raised billions for Trump in 2024.
He didn't balk like Exxon just did. He treated with kid gloves saying what we all know.

Such a bogus take. As always, I'm rooting for the US. I don't think this will hurt China and Russia much. It MIGHT topple Cuba.
But what's it going to cost the US to "run" Venezuela for the several years it's going to take to revitalize their oil industry? Are we willing to sacrifice American troops if necessary?
The deployment of the armada has already cost us around a billion dollars.

You don't think Maduro knew we were coming for him as soon as the first drug boat was sunk?
