Could sure. I would have. So many wouldn’t have though and that’s on top of those who barely contributed. Even now it’s running out. You know why?

Literally no one thinks this. People take issue with it being brought to the same level using the terminology for 24 year old single mothers of 4 recipients.

Because the majority of people take out much more from social security than they put in.
The problem will only get worse due to the declining birth rates and the increasing share of our population that receives benefits.
quote:
Lower- and middle-income Americans who work every year from ages 22 to 65 will pay between $171,000 and $608,000 in payroll taxes for Medicare and Social Security, depending on their income bracket. And though they will receive more in Medicare and Social Security benefits than they paid for, Social Security is a bad deal for workers and their families because they could receive two- to three-times as much, on average, from saving and investing their own money, without adding to the debt burden for younger generations.

What?! It is a very common belief that the money taken out for social security is for “you” at retirement.

Forced redistribution of wealth by the government is forced redistribution of wealth by the government. Doesn’t matter what name the program holds.

If it doesn't matter, then why do you deep calling it welfare? Any why do people not agreeing with it upset you so much? Do you work for an insurance company or something?

you paid into
You paid the US Treasury. There is no "into Social Security." It's a tax with a different label, and the government has spent it as it came in.
30 years ago, I just assumed I'd be means tested out, or it'd be broke, or whatever, and wanted it privatized on behalf of my much younger sisters. I was willing to take the hit to stop the madness. Nobody on TD seems to grasp that someone is going to have to take it in the teeth, maybe at the expense of buying something other than an AT4 every few years.

Bzzzz, bzzzz wrong again!
How much and for how long does one have to contribute to "welfare" before one is able to collect it?
Now compare that to Social Security, if your hollow head is able to make rational comparisons...

Because it’s welfare? Just like wic, section 8, foodstamps, etc.

I think it’s funny people that are so against most welfare programs are so dire hard fans of one of the most costly welfare program we have.

Oh yeah baby. Do you need some term life insurance? Maybe some insurance on your Rolex or your dog?

You do know social security also pays out to disabled people…. Right? Not everyone that receives social security paid into it.
Posted on 4/6/26 at 7:37 pm to beerJeep
Disagree and no thanks I can't afford insurance; I have to pay for welfare.
Posted on 4/6/26 at 8:57 pm to IMSA_Fan
It's not welfare when it's MY money the gooberment has been confiscating for 35+ years without my consent, dumbass.
I want every damn penny of it back.

Yes of course, it is a government mandated "insurance" program.
You did know its official name is Old-Age, Survivors, and Disability Insurance...Right?
But judging by how you couched your post I didn't think you did. It was a very broad statement you made essentially equating it with welfare. I think you realized that since it has been edited and not a minor edit.

It is taking money from the young and productive and redistributing it to the old and infirm
It's not "welfare" if you paid into the system when young and collect when old.
There are plenty of reasons not to like Social Security, but calling it welfare is idiotic.

Granny's generation stood by and allowed our government to roll out the red carpet for these Neanderthals so she gets what she deserves...

Then why would you say
You don’t have to contribute at all to get section 8, Medicare, Medicaid, wic, foodstamps…… and social security. Because they are all welfare programs.
You quite literally tried to say social security isn’t welfare because people have to “pay in” to get it. That was YOUR argument. So I made sure that YOU were aware that disabled people who never paid into the system are able to pull money out.
I edited for formatting, not what the content of my post was….

You didn’t “pay into” shite. You paid for the current care of those receiving current benefits with the hope there would be enough young and healthy to pay for your generation.

So you consented to give them the money they used for all other forms of welfare?
That was mighty generous of you.
The SCOTUS has ruled on this. SS is an entitlement.
