Baw, we all hoped you were going to come back strong and for a brief moment you gave us a glimmer of hope you had gathered yourself ......and then you wilted.

Social security….

Payments given to the elderly…. From the government(via taxes paid by the young and able bodied….) because they do not have enough money

Bruh, very few elderly do not have enough money. The elderly are the richest demographic in tUSA. That is why I said close, but not quite.

I mean we can talk about how it is a scam if you like. We can talk about how it is mismanaged and how I wish it would have been privatized back in the 90's when they floated the idea.

But to say it is welfare, is not being exactly truthful.

What the frick are you talking about? People have paid into this system their entire lives and deserve the money that they were forced to pay their entire lives

Okay? Just like you are forced to pay for other welfare programs like section 8, foodstamps, wic.

Welfare programs are welfare programs. One and all.

They didn’t pay into a system, they paid for the current payments for the elderly at the time they were working. Just like they paid for the section 8, wic, and foodstamps people were getting that same month.

It is quite literally welfare

Not when social security was created.

Social Security = a form of welfare

Bruuuuuhhhhhhh....

It's a wealth transfer. There is no investment account or "lockbox." It is precisely welfare. Just because the tax you were charged 19 years ago said OASDI on it never meant that money was "special." It was just another tax that went into the general fund.

This narrative is getting old quick. Where is the WIC line item on my pay stub? People don't get a choice but to pay into SS whether you work for a company or are self employed. Please explain it to me mr. expert.

I can't argue with stupid fricking people like you.

Every single American that has a job is forced to pay into social security

Young and healthy workers pay a tax. That tax is used to pay for the direct payments to the elderly, disabled, and survivors.

Young and healthy workers pay a tax. That tax is used to pay for the direct payments to the poor, single mothers for childcare, food, and rent.

Both of these are examples of welfare programs. Both of these are forced.

Just because one has a special “tax code” on your taxes doesn’t change the fact it is just like the other welfare programs.

I tend to agree. If SS didn’t exist how would things look today? Much more actual welfare.

One is "forced" through a federal budget and the other is directly out of my fricking paycheck. Just because you look in the mirror and say it to yourself doesn't make it true. Typical condescending POS like the rest of the "smart" people on here.

No. It’s just literally true. Social security is welfare

Another Kool Aid drinker. You could have saved, you could have spent less, you could have invested, you have family (see multi generational Asian households.)

So let me get this straight...

You get your first job at age 18....

Every single week until you are 65 years of age, you are forced to pay what's called Social Security thinking that when you turn 65, you will have a little extra money for the retirement you paid into and now your dumbass is saying that this money should no longer be available for when people who were forced to pay this can no longer receive it?

I'm not mad at all.. I'm just calling you a fricking dumbass because that's exactly what you are

Now, if you want to make it so everybody is no longer forced to pay into this.. sure, eliminate it

We'll just have to agree to disagree. One is used to pay for "welfare" of people who paid into the system and the other is more often than not used to pay for people's welfare who never had a job. I don't consider the first one welfare.

Sorry you didn’t understand what social security is your whole life but you were never paying “into” your retirement. You were paying for the currently retired with the hope and prayer there would be enough young and healthy people to pay for your retirement.

The only dumbasses are the ones who thought they were paying into an account for them to take out at retirement age.

Deal.
