Republican Chris Madel announced Monday that he was ending his run for Minnesota governor, pointing to his party's handling of immigration enforcement in his state as his rationale.

"I cannot support the national Republicans' stated retribution on the citizens of our state, nor can I count myself a member of a party that would do so," Madel said in a video posted to X.

In the nearly 11-minute video, Madel emphasized that he supports Immigration and Customs Enforcement's "originally stated goals" in its Operation Metro Surge in his state. He argued, though, that the operation "has expanded far beyond its stated focus on true public safety threats."

He pointed to U.S. citizens carrying papers to prove their citizenship and Hispanic and Asian law enforcement officers who he says "have been pulled over by ICE on pretextual stops."

Madel, an attorney, also argued that "the national Republicans have made it nearly impossible for a Republican to win a statewide election in Minnesota."

This ding dong must not know the political history of his state. They're the only state to not vote for Ronald Reagan in '84; they've been a far-left cesspool for years. He wouldn't have won anyway.

The entire state needs to be taken over by Trump. It’s just sad at this point what it’s come to.

Good riddance.

You can make the point that the current practices need improvement without undermining the strategy.

ICE would be long out of Minnesota if the governor and mayor of Minneapolis were at least providing some semblance of crowd control in order for these officers to do their job. Instead, Walz and Frey stoking violence and cheering on the anarchy.

It's Minnesota. If he was weak, he never should have thrown his hat in the ring at all. He was never going to win.

Good. If he capitulated and threw the towel so readily, he would have been weak garbage anyway.

1) How much has he taken under the table?
2) He needs to leave the republican party and join the democrats. Pick a side you weak disgusting commie.
3) No way that ice kingdom elects a Republican anyway. He's just virtue signaling for brownie points.

A Domestic Insurgency Has Erupted – President Trump Sending Tom Homan to Minneapolis

January 26, 2026 | Sundance

The violence in Minneapolis erupted when the scale of financial fraud was discovered. The administration of President Trump has begun to highlight this non-pretending reality.

On the surface it seems like ICE enforcement is the issue; however, in reality Governor Tim Walz and Mayor Jacob Frey have been leading a criminal syndicate, with the entire region engaged in money laundering and financial fraud.

State political leadership are involved. The local Minneapolis police are involved; the Minneapolis municipal leaders are involved; a large and dedicated segment of the migrant population is involved; corrupt judges and officers of the courts are involved; public and private sector agencies involved in fraudulent exploitation of benefits are involved, and the community activists -footsoldier communists- are engaged in the process of using civil unrest as cover.
