Been since the last Obama term in office. Just like we have now.

Was there ever a pandemic really?
quote:
Medically, the pandemic moniker is unjustifiable. When the sacrosanct World Health Organization (WHO) made its official declaration in June, we were 11 weeks into the outbreak, and swine flu had only killed 144 people worldwide--the same number who die of seasonal flu worldwide every few hours. The mildest pandemics of the 20th century killed at least a million people worldwide. And even after six months, swine flu has killed about as many people as the seasonal flu does every six days.
So how could WHO make such an outrageous claim?
Simple. It rewrote the definition of "pandemic."
A previous official definition (and widely used unofficial one) required "simultaneous epidemics worldwide with enormous numbers of deaths and illness." Severity--that is, the number--is crucial, because seasonal flu always causes worldwide simultaneous epidemics. But one promulgated in April just days before the announcement of the swine flu outbreak simply eliminated severity as a factor.
Article written in Forbes in 2009. People were complaining about the evolving definition with swine flu. I guess our complaints didn't really matter.

I saw a NYT article yesterday that sounded like what sane people have been saying for 18 months.
Urge the vulnerable to be cautious, stop using “cases” as a metric, and move on with life.
I assume these lockdowns are due to rising case counts?
I don’t like the way people are acting as if we can’t treat this virus. I find that very troubling.

Trump’s big failure was not seeing this. In fact, he foolishly participated in it. Although I supported Trump, I realize that he has no governing principles. He is an empty vessel of ego that stocks itself with slogans that will elevate himself. I appreciate his clear-sightedness on China, and I loved his skewering of the left and especially Hillary, but I’d love to see him exit the stage and be replaced by a Jordan Peterson aligned populist.
Well stated sir.

I don't blame Trump for the local COVID overreach, but goddamned is he the kind of sitting on the sidelines and throwing barbs.
In fact, it's pretty much all he does.
You can't look at the country today and excuse the lack of leadership from 2016-2020.

It’s true - Trump was great for a lot of things but, man, did he miss the boat of correcting the systemic issues
Maybe the President really is a powerless position?
But I stand by my final verdict of Trump: he was a great president in a time we needed a revolutionary

CONTINENTAL war, not regional or factional fighting like we've seen since the 1990's. I'm talking a major throw-down akin to World Wars 1 and 2.

Every one of these surges lasts for 30-45 days and is half over by the time these governments enact their extreme measures.
So they can take some kind of credit.
Just ride it out and everything will be fine. Government action only causes harm which is almost always the case.

Exactly. This is exactly why he should be vanquished in the 2024 primary process. If Trump wins the bid, he loses, and America loses.

You voted for JB and the meltdown we are witnessing
Maybe you should just sit on the sidelines

SWEDEN! Keep your eyes on Sweden. They did it right, and when this started they were pilloried by the left because the left knew that if one country stood against them it would ruin their propaganda narrative.
Sweden! This is why I started to root for Mondo Duplantis again.
Plus, my daughter lived there for two years and we visited a lot. Summer in Stockholm and Gotland is nonpareil!
Sweden is 11% of peak, Denmark is at their highest point ever.
Pretty amazing.

That’s the ever increasing problem with science. People don’t understand it, including trump, so you have to rely on the people that do. If they are corrupt, it’s very hard to challenge them because people don’t have to skills, knowledge, or wherewithal to challenge them
Nobody expected Trump to pass a virology test. He didn't need to understand the science to have not been taken advantage of by the Left. In fact, Trump's initial instincts were spot on - it was clear he was intent on making sure "the cure wasn't worse than the disease" (paraphrasing); remember that? But then he started giving a shite what the press and polls said, and he ended up taking a knee.
Also, it didn't take in depth knowledge of Fauci to quickly figure out he was bad - bad for Trump, bad for the country, and bad for a grownup approach to addressing Covid. Trump should have fired that little fricker 3 days into the "crisis" - but no later than right after he gave that reporter the "I'm surrounded by retards" smirk as he left the press conference with Trump/team.

My vote for JB was irrelevant because I live in a state that Trump won by over 600,000 votes. But Trump will never again win a national election.
