Norway, the Benelux countries, and Germany are starting to prepare for another round of closures while Australia and New Zealand (admittedly not European countries) are borderline Orwellian right now. Meanwhile...countries like Sweden and segments of the United States have moved on as if there had never been a pandemic.

SWEDEN! Keep your eyes on Sweden. They did it right, and when this started they were pilloried by the left because the left knew that if one country stood against them it would ruin their propaganda narrative.

Sweden! This is why I started to root for Mondo Duplantis again.

Plus, my daughter lived there for two years and we visited a lot. Summer in Stockholm and Gotland is nonpareil!

I wonder what the hospitalization rate is.

Lock downs only prolong the surge.

All political theater. They didn't ruin capitalism as much as they wanted the first time

This really is no exaggeration. The pandemic is a tailor-made opportunity for the left to grow the public sector. And an overbearing public sector elevates politicians and bureaucrats above capitalists, as the most powerful people in the world.

It has long been, in the West, that although our politicians were the most powerful among us, their reign was transitory due to term limits and the will of the people. Any organism, or human organization, strives for survival and eminence, so our government sector always strives for a more permanent basis of power. Only by growing the public sector can they overcome the power of the demos. The strength of the public sector is represented by the amount of money it spends. The pandemic was an excuse to greatly expand the balance sheet of the governments.

Trump’s big failure was not seeing this. In fact, he foolishly participated in it. Although I supported Trump, I realize that he has no governing principles. He is an empty vessel of ego that stocks itself with slogans that will elevate himself. I appreciate his clear-sightedness on China, and I loved his skewering of the left and especially Hillary, but I’d love to see him exit the stage and be replaced by a Jordan Peterson aligned populist.

Europe has other things to worry about than this silly COVID. Aren't they about due for another continental war? It's been a while since the last one.

Right. President Trump is a fool and an "empty vessel of ego" with no governing principles, but you support him. bullshite. President Trump relied on medical experts to advise him what to do when the covid outbreak started. I'm sure he didn't realize at the time that he was surrounded by fauci and other swamp creatures who were all interested in his demise. What was he supposed to do? Yeah, he shouldn't have advocated shutdowns, but when he realized his mistake he reversed course.

That’s the ever increasing problem with science. People don’t understand it, including trump, so you have to rely on the people that do. If they are corrupt, it’s very hard to challenge them because people don’t have to skills, knowledge, or wherewithal to challenge them

Compare this paragraph to your opinion that it’s unclear if a vaccine mandate is an overreach off the President’s authority.

Any trekkies remember the TNG episode where they keep increasing shield strength which caused the anomaly coming at the ship to increase by orders of magnitude? (Yes, I’m a geek).

They eventually dropped shields to nullify the shockwave, even though it seemed like suicide. That’s what government reaction to covid reminds me of. The more lockdowns, the more life covid has. We need commander Data to set us straight.
