Then you are giving remote employees way too much rope.

I'm not, I can measure performance in ways other than, "give me a list of things you've accomplished". As should most other remote managers.
We’re talking about the operating procedures of the federal government, where 10’s of thousands of individuals over the age of 110 yrs old have been receiving social security benefits. Do you have faith they have measuring systems in place to monitor productivity from their workers?

Normal, standard operating procedures and systems of accountability are sorely inadequate in our government system. Waste, abuse, and zero oversight or accountability are the order of the day with this clown show.

If you're a retard, sure.

The Trump administration can't even fricking figure out what to do, which makes sense. It's filled with retards.

my boss asked me to list 5 things I did last week, I would respond with 5 things I did last week. Why are they bitching about having to do this?

Because many of them think they're an untouchable and protected group. There’s one particular TikTok account (llamallamastuff or something like that) that’s apparently run by a Fedgov IT employee using puppets in her video, and most of her stuff post-election seems to be tutorials on how to get away with insubordination via something she calls “Malicious Compliance”. There’s probably legions like her working behind the scenes. I get the impression these people despise the public when they vote wrong. Lots of complaining in her stuff about stripping DEI language and pronouns too, so yes, Virginia, its seems our Federal workforce is staffed by people that despise you and think they should be unaccountable to elections and voters both.

No one is back pedaling. Trump confirmed today. Respond or you’re fired. It’s not that hard. Answer an email. They’re just looking for a response of any kind. Anyone complaining deserves to be fired.

You couldn’t be more wrong. It was a poor move and a shite show in implementation

There is a chain of command.

Their boss is a supervisor, who is then supervised by a manager...who can then be supervised by a Director. That director then reports to the agency head or even in some cases a deputy department head to department head.

Then when you have all department heads who are directly appointed by the President, then independent executive agencies.

ETA: could this all be simplified? Hell yeah that'd be awesome but this is generally not a quick process because of various CFRs and public laws

This is an extremely simplified version of how things work.

I guess the best example in the private world would be a multinational corporation...or conglomerate.

Trump needs to ask Patel why he is undermining DOGE. I'd wager >90% of FBI personnel are corrupt and need to go.

No way

I was assured that this was all very normal, simple stuff

Why would they backpedal on such brilliant consulting work?! Have they never managed an Arby’s in the private sector?

No one, evidently even Musk at this point, knows what the hell is going on with this shite at this point.

Musk: You're fired if you don't respond
Host of department heads: Do not respond to the email
Trump: Yeah, they'll be fired if they don't respond.
OPM: Responding is voluntary
More department leadership: Do not respond to the email
OPM: Who replies and doesn't reply is basically up to direct management
Musk: I'm giving you another chance, though I said that if you don't respond by midnight it is an automatic resignation, but this time if you don't respond again......it is an automatic resignation
Actual workers: fricked if we know

What an absolute clusterfrick.
