They also subsidize the shite out of industries that they want to dominate
Subsidy is too weak of a characterization. These industries are owned by the CCP.

For as big of a pile of crap that Ford/GM/Chrysler make, I can't imagine how shitty chinese cars are.

There's very little evidence of such in any real industry there
Check out how they use the Uyghurs they have them literally in camps and utilize forced labor. There is plenty of evidence.
The last report I saw from the Global Slave index put it at 5.8 million people living in slave labor.

The only people there is “very little evidence of this” for are those whose heads are firmly planted in the sand or their assed.
Even our own DOL admit there is slavery in China LINK

Its an American businessman wanting protective tariffs. Of course you believe it.
You love overpaying for labor.

Tariffs are corporatism, and benefit the oligarchs. Most American companies would love that kind of protection.

No. We don't
MAGAts are terrified of competition.

People overlook this way too much. China competes so well because they use true slave labor and child labor in many instances.
True. But robots can.

What happened when we put quotas on Japanese cars in the 80s?

I know youre not informed enough to answer, but I will ask you the same question.
What happened when we put tariffs on Japanese cars in the 80s?

A fact that "free trade" idealists conveniently ignore.

Our country is very inefficient. From the government, down to the manufacturing. So yeah.. China would dominate in the auto industry if there're no restrictions.

The problem with tariffs is they discourage innovation and subsidize poor quality.
Sure, you make woke American automated corporations wealthier, but youre not helping the consumer at all.

If we assume "the consumer" doesn't need a job, this would be true.

The Chinese car companies are the most competitive car companies in the world,

Future factories will be primarily automation with little human labor input.
