I am both a math whiz and financial genius. I once corrected my professor’s lecture in business calculus. He let me teach the rest of the class. I think he thought it was a joke. But I went up and continued where he was incorrect and explained why a negative axis was easily misinterpreted.

Elon is forgetting the basic fundamentals of supply and demand. He has a product or service. What could be worth more than the entire output of the entire globe? It the Nirvana song “The Man Who Sold the World.” Basically he’s describing something of infinite worth. But what would you give an exchange for something of infinite worth and what could he receive and exchange for something of infinite worth? If he has something of infinite worth, there’s nothing that we have that we could give him in order to obtain that. And if he has something of infinite worth, what is his goal in utilizing the value of his possession? How does he intend to maximize his possession? Does he want to be pharaoh?

It is a mathematical paradox. What he is saying is not only silly but it's mathematically impossible.

I'm not sure you understand what would be required to make that happen.

I'm certain that you don't either, but I'm confident that it will get figured out by men smarter than you or I will ever be. We're getting off this rock eventually or we're going extinct, there's no way around it, and off-world mining will be part of the process.

What you're describing is not a proximate issue. We are not facing a human extinction event anywhere in the near future unless we force the issue with all out nuclear war.

Also, as to the rest I would assume that he is anticipating an economy that stretches beyond earth. But I wouldn't know as I do not tout myself as a "math whiz and financial genius."

Unless the revenue is coming from non earth entities the math still doesn't check out

Can't get anything past this retard, can ya?

That's what "an economy that stretches beyond Earth means."

One thing is for certain. The man is the most successful businessman in the history of Earth. I highly doubt he is overlooking the "basic principles of supply and demand."

And even then he is known to embellish on things frequently

There are two people that this board will not stand for any dissent. One is Donald Trump. The other is Elon musk. Just insane levels of demagoguery on this board.

I see you both being wrong and also trying to derail a thread that has absolutely nothing to do with that.

I think the underrated variable of Elon's comments is how the relationship between revenue/profit and valuation has separated, and if that continues on an exponential path it makes his claims more palatable. It's still irrational, but possible because markets sometimes get irrational.
