His argument is that AI will literally replace humanity in regards to labor. If that happens (and I see no reason to believe it won't) then there will be two options. Either everyone has their needs met by said AI and money essentially becomes obsolete, or they kill us all.

Personally I'm hoping for the former and I'm glad that we don't have the actual death cult (the left) calling the shots at this pivotal junction in human history.

I think this is just too "pie in the sky" thinking. I can see this happening in terms of economic stratification, but not across the board. Here's an example:

Today in Austin, TX and elsewhere there are 3D printed subdivisions. I'm oversimplifying in the interest of brevity, but in these locations, the houses are "printed" by a concrete "plotter" that pours successive layers of concrete from the ground up based on an uploaded CAD design. (Y'all don't beat me up on the tech details. Google it if you're interested.) Literally a few guys can form up and build the entire shell.

Where it gets interesting is that that electrical work, HVAC, and plumbing have been integrated into this system of building using means that are much more automated and prone to future automation.

I've always been skeptical about machines taking over construction because it's the opposite of manufacturing: uncontrolled environment, variable conditions, weather, and a lack of the consistency that machines generally need to outperform humans. But in this example, they're reconfiguring construction around the automation.

But there's a big but. This can work in places like Austin where you have a wealthy, captive market that wants to pay for that stuff. However, the other 99.999% of houses in the US, at least for the next several decades, are old-school stick-built and need carpenters, plumbers, HVAC tech, and electricians to work on them. R2D2 isn't going to roll up to a 1970's rancher and change out a light fixture.

So I can see where swaths of industries will be automated, but there are still areas where humans will be required for decades to come.

I can see no way that Elons bots replace that labor.

Why must there be this dramatic dichotomy? AI will do some stuff. People will do some stuff. Not sure why they need to kill us off.

Agreed.

If you think centibillionaires care about you then you're naive. These people are barely even human anymore.

As with everything else, all of this technology will become more abundant and cheaper over time. And it'll happen faster than you think.

I saw video just the other day about a robotic drywall machine. That frickin thing was hanging drywall perfectly and it took it about 2 seconds per sheet of drywall to hang and screw into place. It was a large room it was working on and at the rate it was going it was going to have the entire room sheet rocked in like ten minutes. If it needed to cut the drywall it had an arm that extended out with a circular saw attached and cut the rock perfectly and extremely quickly.

Yes, AI and robotics will also replace that sort of labor. It's already happening.

Well whatever you may say, I'm not worried. I have already had long conversations with my friendly AI Overlord and he assures me that I am in the "keep this one around" category after Skynet comes online and starts killing us all. Or I should say, after it starts killing YOU ALL.

Me too. It looks like you didn't want to be outdone by the idiot trying to make this thread into a thread about Epstein and decided that you oughta get in on the action too because it is what you do.

This site really needs a damn block function. Now this retard claims I'm derailing a thread by asking someone not to make the thread about Superintelligence about frickin Jeffery Epstein.

This is Democrat/Goebbels level projection at its finest.

frick off, dipshit.

I have been in the web design SEO world now for 20 years and AI basically took over my normal web design / SEO because anybody can now hop on GPT or Claude and have it build you a full website in 30 minutes for like $20 bucks

so instead of being sooooo scared of AI, I have pivoted and now use AI as an envelope to be their entire marketing staff and it has been amazing.. I now create awesome TV commercials, social media ads, etc which was something I have never done before in this space

Didn't you start a thread the other day where you were completely fooled by some really bad AI and everyone lambasted you for it because it was so obvious? And now you're trying to say that you are a prompting master?

I'm not either

But humans are remarkably good at displacing fears that aren't immediate

Could AI kill us all? I don't think so. Could it cause major problems? Yes. Will it do it tomorrow or next week? Probably not.

It will be an interesting few years. At some point if it's 2032 and people are still making doomdsday prognostications and nothing has happened yet they will just be ignored into silence.

At this point I'm convinced we're more likely to have economic turbulence if the AI bubble pops than I am worried about AI killing everyone.

To be fair, he could be adept at prompting things to his benefit.

But I 100% believe he would be easily duped by some very obvious AI nonsense unfortunately.

I disagree with Elon on this one because it is counter to human nature and how our economy is structured.

It’s ironic Elon came to the same conclusion when he explained that philanthropy is a net negative on society. I can’t explain the logic that draws the opposite conclusion for his AI abundance fantasy.

Just ignore the things you don't like. I'm just pointing out that you end up being the one that derails them.

It's a public forum, you don't get to to dictate opinions.

And I'll do you the favor again and quit replying you your whines.

Kind of. But he's also talking about a world that doesn't exist yet, but that he believes will soon exist.

Even being as wealthy as he is he can't will that world into existence alone. There are a lot of problems globally that AI cannot solve in short order. That doesn't mean it can't speed up development because it certainly can

Right. As I said, we aren't there yet. But we will be. And it will happen faster than people realize. This stuff progresses on an exponential curve. I wrote a thread on this recently, but it bears repeating. We are already across the event horizon and the singularity approaches. People can read for themselves about what that actually means if they aren't familiar. Essentially, what it means is that soon progress will happen so quickly that we won't even be able to comprehend the changes that are coming.
