So, if you founded a company like Musk did and was as successful as he is, surely you would just give all of your money away, right?

I should have known based on the avatar. There are very few posters here with a uat logo that aren't dumb as a fricking brick.

I explained everything to you and your response was simply to repeat the same line you've been parroting the whole time.

Not only did I explain it but referred to research that backs what I said up and your response was to claim that the research is part of the government conspiracy to raise taxes.

How do y'all move through the world on a day to day basis with IQs so low?

You look like a complete idiot in this thread. You have no idea what you're talking about. Using more words to say things that are not true does not make you look smarter.

But he helped get TRUMP elected.

What’s the problem?

You answered your own question.

So it isn't about money, or teachers or anything. It's just "Orange Man Bad!!!". "Anyone associated with Orange Man is bad!!!".

What a surprise!

How much do they have to raise prices to get back to their previous profit level of $900?

Not 10%. Because remember, income taxes are levied on profits. They are not a raw production cost. So the more profit you make, the more you're paying back in taxes (and the reverse is also true, the lower your profit, the less that tax increase affects you.)

They'd have to raise prices roughly 13% to level out the 10% tax increase.

Not to get too picky about this on a politics board, but it does significantly impact the politics part of the discussion. It's an increase on prices you're calculating to cover a tax increase, so you need pricing to do that. It's (dollar tax increase) $100 divided by revenue = the increase in prices necessary. Not (dollar tax increase) $100 divided by profit. What you end up with is substantially smaller price increases needed than the scenario you sketched out.

Yes, income taxes are paid on profit as you point out, but price increases are a function of price, not profit. In your hypothetical, for example - if revenue is $2,000 and before tax profit $1,000, in order to maintain $900 after tax profit with a tax increase of 10%, you'd have to raise prices 5%.

Show your work.

There’s 2,000,000 elementary school teachers with an average salary of $59,000.

I'm not the poster you directed that message to (they probably won't answer anyway), but it made me curious.

A quick AI scan seems to validate your numbers (maybe even on the low end). So that is $118 Billion (118 x 10^9) for elementary (including 'middle' school) teacher annual salaries.

Now, does Musk make $3B more than that? So that simply means Musk would need to make > $121B/year. Seems liberals have trouble with net worth and income, and then there is 'taxable income'. And Musk's situation is obviously complex and lumpy year-to-year.

The numbers I'm finding are fuzzy. From wiki:
snippits:
Elon Musk made $175.8 million when PayPal was sold to eBay in 2002. Forbes Billionaires Listed in 2012, a net worth of $2 billion.

Millions, not Billions.

Musk paid $455 million in taxes on $1.52 billion of income between 2014 and 2018.

So that's ~ 380 Million per year over those 4 years (no Billions at all)

Musk paid no federal income taxes in 2018.[15] He stated his 2021 tax bill was estimated at $12 billion based on his sale of $14 billion worth of Tesla stock.

Not adding up for me. Even if that $14B of TSLA was at zero cost basis 12/14 = an *average* 85% tax rate, top tax bracket was 37%. I forget details of AMT, but I don't think that could even get you to 85% average?

If you want to consider an increase in net worth as 'making money' (unrealized gains), the best I can find is Musk's NW went from $27B in 2020 to $385B in 2025. So (385-27) / 5 years = $71 B per year. And that is a very volatile number. Yet, even by that most generous definition, it's a long way from the $121B in the OP.

How about he uses some of that to pay off the debt for high performing teachers who still carry debt. They would still be required to pay it off just at a 0% interest. Show of good faith that I personally think could carry a ton of weight.

Why? Why does he owe teachers anything?

How many people do those teachers employ?
Are these teachers more easily replaced in the marketplace than Musk?

Musk makes more per year than every elementary teacher in the country combined. Yes, that is true.

Show us the math.

This whole damn thread is nothing if that statement of what he 'makes' isn't true.

Actually, it's meaningless even if it were true, but for other reasons.

It was entirely the left’s idea to give massive subsidies to electric vehicle companies.

It’s logic like this that people think female athletes should be paid as much as male athletes.

You get paid for the value you provide.

Sounds like you're trying to compare 2 different things

Also, whatever Tesla did it did it legally. If you don't like the tax code, you should have been more vocal in 2017 when Trump tried to get rid of it.

BOT ALERT!!!

fwiw, Elon Musk has about 3 billion more gray brain cells than every elementary school teacher in the US and is about 3 billion points above all of them when it comes to IQ.

He’s also done more to further improve humanity than all the teachers in the US.

And no teaching kids that men can get pregnant and you can change genders at will isn’t improving humanity

Companies just pass taxes on to consumers. So, if you make Tesla pay taxes, an elementary teacher will just have to pay more for her Tesla. Why do want to raise taxes on elementary teachers?
