Musk and others are working feverishly to usurp every commercial driver, eliminating 2 million jobs at minimum. At some point, the rage against the machines and industrialists like Musk will take place.

UBI is their only hope to avoid their own bodies be hung over a bridge.

UBI will absolutely create a permanent underclass that is riddled with disease, crime, and dysfunction. It’s a societal trade off.

A 2012 Pew study found that the largest stagnant group in terms of intergenerational social class change we’re children in the lowest quintile of earned income with nearly half remaining in that lowest 20% through adulthood.

So, more than half made it higher on the ladder. That ain't bad.

Even assuming everyone keeps working at their current wages/hours, the argument that UBI will provide economic security for the paycheck-to-paycheck folks is the best. Once a bill passes, every lower-income household renting a property is getting a letter with a big fat 20-30% rent increase. Businesses aren't sitting in a bubble, they're going to race to capture that increased purchasing power. The concept benefits no one.

I’d have to go back and look but I think a significant portion of the remaining group - like about 40% of the total - only wind up in the second lowest quintile. And the original group is by far the most stagnant.

It’s really not surprising when you start looking at IQ rates.

For true UBI to work, you have to provide the amount of money required by law, and that’s it. No other welfare, etc.

It also must include closed borders and be limited to actual citizens. Grant citizenship only to potential contributors to the country.

They were the norm of my age group in the deep south.
Maybe not the norm but very common.
