I do not know how long Birmingham has been referred to by that name, but Miami has been called that since at least 1960.

That would predate Miami’s being called the Magic City. It got the nickname sometime around the population boom in Miami during and after WW2 and rapid growth.

I’ve heard Birmingham called a lot of different things, none contained the word “magic”. “shite” is the most common lead-off word.
