Lots to absorb here, but they appear to be coming for Elon.

England, not Russia, is the culprit in a real foreign election interference story, as the leaked Stateside plans of an advisory group with close ties to Prime Minister Keir Starmer show

In an explosive leak with ramifications for the upcoming U.S. presidential election, internal documents from the Center for Countering Digital Hate—whose founder is British political operative Morgan McSweeney, now advising the Kamala Harris campaign—show the group plans in writing to “kill Musk’s Twitter” while strengthening ties with the Biden/Harris administration and Democrats like Senator Amy Klobuchar, who has introduced multiple bills to regulate online “misinformation.” Klobuchar’s office declined repeated requests for comment:

The documents obtained by The DisInformation Chronicle and Racket show CCDH’s hyperfocus on Musk — “Kill Musk’s Twitter” is the first item in the template of its monthly agenda notes dating back to the early months of this year.
quote:
In the last two months, the Washington Post and Politico, among others, have run a series of features about British advisors from Labour Together rescuing the distressed political damsel that is the Harris/Walz campaign. Politico casts McSweeney as the “election mastermind” who first helped Keir Starmer defeat leftist Jeremy Corbyn to become the head of Labour, all the way to Starmer’s “landslide” win over Conservatives to become Prime Minister this past July, implying that McSweeney and his team can perform a similar miracle for Harris.
quote:
Now, CCDH’s growing Washington office is working on similar plans to “kill” the online presence of Democratic rivals like Musk by attacking X’s advertising revenue, a tactic first perfected in London against The Canary. CCDH is also laying the foundation for broader regulatory changes in the direction of platform censorship.
“60 meetings on the Hill,” reads one CCDH task assignment from early 2024. “Meeting with 16 congressional offices over the next two weeks to give updates on the Elon lawsuit,” reads another, referring to Musk’s since-dismissed lawsuit against CCDH accusing it of manipulating data to make a case for proliferation of hate speech on X.
CCDH also held meetings with federal legislators while pushing for “change in USA” toward a censorious proposal it calls the “STAR framework,” which would create an “independent digital regulator” that could “impose consequences for harmful content.” STAR’s core concepts are similar to Europe’s just-instituted Digital Services Act and Britain’s even more stringent Online Safety Act, which puts the national media regulator Ofcom in charge of determining fines for uncooperative platforms.

I trust Elon has a contingency plan.

If Trump is not elected. You can bet they will force Elon to sell X. Every country will pull a Brazil if he doesn't.

The EU has a long history of being angry at our tech and using their regulations to either fine them bigly or to get them in line.
It started with Microsoft like 15 years ago.
The EU forced Microsoft to un-bundle Teams in April
Pretty sure Apple and Google have also had to deal with them.
Europe is very, VERY jealous of our tech industry. This is their latest angle.

Microsoft, which has racked up 2.2 billion euros ($2.4 billion) in EU antitrust fines in the past decade for tying or bundling two or more products together, risks a fine of as much as 10% of its global annual turnover if found guilty of antitrust breaches.
Pretty sure Apple and Google have also had to deal with them.

I think that's largely inevitable for a lot of the non-American world (including EU)

This was a good point in the comments.

This is simply despicable; a transparent attempt to use a foreign political entity as a cut-out to censor Americans is, if anything, even worse than directly silencing us.

If Trump doesn't win, Elon isn't the only one in trouble.
We will experience censorship never before imagined. The conversationa we have here daily, will no longer be allowed. Beyond that, who knows how far they will go.
One thing is for certain, they can't control the opposition while free speech is allowed.

Excluding genocide, it doesn't get anymore "literally Hitler" than thst.

Election interference, attempted censorship..The UK is not an ally.

That may be true. I believe you.
I don't think that's their main motivation. Countries in the EU are censoring speech in a big way, which doesn't have anything to do with being jealous of our tech industry.
It's all about Marxism. Controlling the opposition and the people as a whole which isn't possible while free speech is allowed.

Democrats and their allies go ape shite wild when they no longer control the media.

Guaranteed the step after that is to make any new censorship law retroactive. They’ll control you not only by silencing you now and in the future but by also extorting you using your past.

I read in the Telegraph yesterday that the EU is looking to multiple, consistent €1B + fines.
Posted on 10/22/24 at 11:52 am to LuckyTiger
I believe their big scheme is to tie all of Musk's companies together as one enterprise and base the scale of their fines to all of them.

for once, I agree with you. I'd also add that the UK has been the tip of the spear for political censorship and prosecution of speech online, so Musk's approach, and success, is a direct threat to their ideology.

but reading stories about their new far left government's (as opposed to the sort of left Tories) frickups is hilarious.
They couldn't manage that McDonald's Trump visited.

You're not suggesting the EU/UK's aggressive posture opposite Elon's Twitter has anything to do with their jealousy of our tech, are you?
This isn't about anti-trust or disparate tech industries. It's 100% about Leftists wanting to control speech.

Remember four years ago when they were telling us that Twitter was a private enterprise and they can censor anyone they want, for any reason they want. And they said if you don’t like it, get your own.
Yeah, the tolerant fricking left.

Agreed. I've stated same thing before. Everything on the internet is digitally stored. They create an algorithm and see everything a person has said online. Many think this is hyperbole.
All I can respond with is, " If Dems win, sit back and watch."
