Those of you not from here, this won't mean much. But he was THE political analyst / pollster that people in the NOLA area, and to some extent, the entire state, paid attention to. He was one of the many reasons WWL-TV was a truly unbeatable force in local television in the 80s, 90s, and 2000s.
My dad would only watch WWL news. And he was always being interviewed, and then every time there was election coverage, he was at the center of it. He had a strong ability to explain and compare elections and candidates.
I had no idea which way he leaned politically. Considering he taught at Loyola, I have an idea, but that never came out in his coverage. He was, in his reporting, about as politically neutral as you can get. A far cry form most of the pollsters and "experts" out there today.

Ed Renwick, the veteran local pollster, professor and former WWL-TV political analyst whose insights helped shape politics and political coverage for four decades in New Orleans, died Friday. He was 81.

My Gramps would walk in at 5pm, and if Bill Elder wasn't on, hell would be paid.

He was my professor in the 1980’s. It was a course on political corruption with heavy focus on Watergate. Renwick was an expert on all things Watergate.
If I had to guess his political leanings, it was simply for honest government. He was a big critic of Edwin Edwards as I recall.

Not from Louisiana so unfamiliar with this man, but seems like he was solid.
He may have been the very last of a now dead breed of politically non-biased media personalities.
Very sad. I miss being a kid, back when you had a feeling which way the talking heads leaned but it never really shone through.
