I don’t know whether the Politico article is accurate or not, but this is nonsense. A person can’t know if someone else spoke to Politico or not, and they can’t know whether he has shown zero concern unless he/she has been watching him 100% of the time and can actually determine whether he’s showing concern or not.

A believable response would have been something like: “I’ve never seen anything to suggest concern, and I don’t believe anyone in his inner circle has spoken to Politico since everyone I’ve talked to has denied it.”

The fact that the immediate response was such extreme and unreasonable nonsense, and told to a friendly outlet, makes me believe the Politico story has more validity than before this article. That said, that doesn’t mean Jr’s concerns are valid and he will be indicted.

I disagree his patriotism remarks, but in the sentence following what you quoted, he said “they automatically assume it was a conspiracy.” So if the principle of presumption of innocence is their basis, which is completely valid, how can they also argue a conspiracy without violating the presumption of innocence of the conspirators?

Wouldn’t selectively applying the principle based on whether you support a person or not be more cult-like than anything else? It’s like the hypocrite scholars who were leaders in the “me too” movement, but wrote a letter criticizing a male NYU student who accused their fellow “me too” leader and feminist of sexual misconduct, and argued her scholarly work was justification for leniency when his claims were backed by evidence. Arguing the importance of principles when they’re convenient and dismissing them when their not is cult-like behavior.
