We know that the satanist are usually simply angry atheists trying to be spiteful or offensive. But regardless, does the satanic “religion” exist on its on, or does it need Christianity to exist first? Christianity had to explain that there is a Satan, no?

Not sure that's correct. What you describe is Cos play.

Christianity provided the context for some modern atheists to latch on to that ideology that mocks religion while claiming to be a religion.

No. According to Christianity , God is a holy eternal being. Satan is a created being.

Most modern "satanists" are just trolls trying to piss off Christians.

except that several posters have admitted its not a religion

Anton LaVey (founder of CoS) himself admitted it was founded as a satirical statement against religion in general & Christianity in particular. Not as an actual religion.

As it is not a religion, it is not covered under legal protection of religions.

To answer your question, any religion creates the avenue for this sort of response. The more dominant a religion, the more likely these responses are, especially in a developed society (which excludes most Muslim-dominated countries, for obvious reasons).

I'm not convinced that people worship Satan outside of a tongue-in-cheek and oftentimes immature jab at Christians. Say what you want about specifics, but generally speaking, the virtues and vices Christianity touches on are generally good takes, and taking the contrary stance just to be contrary opens yourself up to self-destructive behaviors.

Wasn't satan first mentioned in Genesis (Old Testament) as a serpent tempting Eve to eat from the tree of knowledge? Christianity started in the New Testament seems around Acts.

Satanism exists because people want attention.

Outside of worship of deities, there is a lot of overlap in the philosophy of Jesus and the Satanic Temple.

Their first tenet is:

quote:

One should strive to act with compassion and empathy toward all creatures in accordance with reason.

One of their tenets is a freedom to offend. While not a bedrock principle of Christianity, it's a big part of the counter to social-Progressivism today.

Aren't satanists just angry atheists who are trolling Christians?

I know they claim otherwise, but I've yet to see anything to prove me wrong on this.

Satan is the Archangel of God as per Christian teachings. So I man did not believe in God then they wouldn’t believe in his Archangels either one would have to believe. I’m sure the dregs of life would bow to some other kind of evil

No.

The serpent was a serpent.

That was retconned hundreds, if not thousands of years after the Torah was written.

I'm sure there are a lot of largely recycled tenets that most modern day religious abide by, but I was specifically taking about views on lust, sloth, pride, etc.

I might be wrong, but I don't expect Satanists to be preaching the importance of humility, chastity, etc.
