It must be a pathetic existence to be so atomized from your own history and culture that you'd even ask this question. What a pointless, unfulfilled life you must live.

Flags are symbols of identity. People can have many levels of identity. One level of identity for those that live in the South is "Southerner". There is still no other symbol that represents Dixie or the South than the Battle Flag.

IMO, fighting for the confederate flag and some statues should be the least of anyone’s worries atm.

It was not THE Confederate Battle Flag, it was A Confederate Battle Flag.

It wasn't universally flown. As posted above, it's role was relatively minor until it was used to raise the middle finger a hundred years later.

My take on it is that either you don’t care about the flag and can honestly say it shouldn’t matter to people today what it stood for 150 years ago, or it means something to you because of southern pride or ancestors that fought in the war, etc.

However, if you ascribe to the latter, then you have to admit that just as much as it means to you for southern pride and/or your ancestry it could mean the same to a black person as far as being a symbol of their historical struggles 150 years ago/slavery.

This thread is conservatism in a nutshell.

"The consrevative case for gay marriage."

"The conservative case for Drag Queen Story Hour."

"The conservative case for banning the Confederate Flag."

Conservatives put up a half-assed fight when there are no stakes, and then surrender as soon as the left gets mad enough. We are where we are tonight as a result of 60+ years of conservatives cucking on every issue that matters.

That is not the point.

The confederate flag and all these statues are part of the history of our country. They should be preserved for that reason.

What we're witnessing right now is bigger than the rebel flag. Personally, IDGAF about it and under normal circumstances I would agree. But right now enough is enough and the madness has to end.

It's time for city/state leaders to put an end to these protests because they are no longer about George Floyd, they're about a Marxist takeover over of America.

The battle flag that is commonly called "The Confederate Flag," was barely flown during the CW.

If you are referring to the St. Andrews cross battle flag you are a fricking idiot. This might be The dumbest/most ignorant post that I have ever seen here. The Battle flag was flown by regiments in the Army of Northern Virginia. The Confederate Army of Tennessee even adopted a version of the St.Andrews Cross battle flag. Who taught you history? Just go look up the original battle flags in state archives and museums. The St. Andrews Cross was the most dominant f!ag used in the battlefields by both CSA armies.

It’s a symbol and people have a choice of what offends them

The Stars and Stripes became then symbol of an unified country but it still gets disrespected

Let blm come up with their own flag that they can kneel to but the American flag Is the flag of this nation like it or not. Respect the flag

You god damn right I do. My grandfathers would piss on my grave if I didnt after fighting their arse off for years and surviving through POW camps at the end only to have to walk from Maryland to Alabama when it was all said and done. Poor dirt farmers both of em. Tougher men will never be seen on the land again as far as I'm concerned.

dont care about a single flag ever but I do care about trying to erase everything. that's what communists do during a revolution takeover. at some point a line will have to be drawn.

You are correct that it was the most popular battle flag used after the original flag was abandoned because it was too similar to the Stars & Stripes in early battles, which confused the troops. On that point I mis-spoke and stand corrected.

However, it was not universal. It was not used by all regiments, and more to my point, it's symbolic significance was minor while the war was actually happening and it quickly faded into near obscurity after the war, only to be revived a hundred years later for the purpose of being as big a dillhole as possible.

Speaking of which.

I have no problem standing corrected when I misspeak or am incorrect about something, and you are right, I misspoke this time.

But your attempts to feel better about your substandard penis by being an internet tough guy—while amusing—are unnecessary to that end.

War Eagle.

I’m with you. The notion that my dirt poor mountain farming relatives fought to preserve some rich plantation owners slaves is ludicrous.

I would bet both my grandfathers had maybe seen 0-5 black people their whole life and that was in passing. Hell, I bet since they have died 0-5 black people have even been to the area they lived in, but they will always be known as racist overlords which is asinine and idiotic. Unfortunately that also is the state of most people now...
