I mean, the civil war was a long arse time ago, does it really hurt your feelings if it’s gone? If it reminds a certain group of people about slavery then why not get rid of it?

Some people just might like to celebrate four years of hunger, famine, bloodshed, and defeat, you never know.

I couldn’t care less, but why would a flag from 150 years ago that was centered on slavery upset people who were never slaves?

In addition, why would a flag used during the Civil Rights fight upset a generation that had zero to do with gaining those rights?

I’m not much on being fearful of inanimate objects. If you are, then you’re simply weak minded

Yes, because I knew it wasn't going to stop at the Confederate flag. And here were are today where any statue memorializing America's history is fair game; just ask the statue of the Union soldiers in Minneapolis that was taken out today. They statue of Robert Gould Shaw was also vandalized last week, as was the World War 2 Memorial.

One of my ancestors lost an arm at Pea Ridge.

I mean i don't think you should ban a flag as a government.

if certain businesses and things are trying to not be associated with it well what do you expect. they want everyone as a patron. It's tough though for someone like NASCAR for examples core fanbase is probably not a big fan of this so they're risking spurning some of their most hardcore fans in order to potentially appeal to a wider audience.

we'll see if the decision pays off. If nothing else it was a reminder to me that NASCAR is still in action in an otherwise sportless world.

It's the flag my ancestors fought under, and if the working class white northerners who fought against them had been able to see the timeline we're living in, they'd have switched sides in a heartbeat.

The battle flag that is commonly called "The Confederate Flag," was barely flown during the CW. It didn't come into popularity until the federal government started enforcing desegregation, and it was nothing more than an intentional middle finger both to blacks and the government for forcing whites to integrate with them. It has exactly zero to do with "heritage."

It should be recognized as such and condemned as such. The 1st amendment stands, and anyone who wants to to may fly it. But it needs to be recognized that anyone who does is being an intentional a-hole.

Which is, of course, their right.

Because it wasn't. It was during the late 50s-70s that the flag in question started being flown.

To be fair, NASCAR will still be waiving the only confederate flag that matters on the last lap of every race.

Well, there's like twenty five versions of the flag which one is it that bothers you most and why do the others not bother you?
