Do you support Turtle allowing the individual mandate repeal to be tacked onto tax reform?

This unnecessarily complicates it for me. Instead of debating the merits of an already complex issue (straight tax reform), I feel it's now going to turn into a referendum on Obamacare again.

I think tax reform already faced an uphill battle based on how many entrenched interest(s) there are/were, and I just think adding the healthcare component to it almost assuredly kills it.

Goldman Sachs has it at 80% chance of passing

The reason? There are no firm Republican no's in the senate

Passing the Senate or passing overall?

Yes. It's the last little thread it clings to, and a hypothetical future Democrat president WILL send people the bill for avoiding coverage, people at this time assured by Trump that he will not pursue the penalty.

Thanks to John Roberts magically turning a regulatory penalty into a "tax",
it's fair game to incorporate the issue into a tax bill.

Well, it's a tax, right?

They have never pursued the penalty. Even before Trump.

I'm not arguing it's not a tax; I'ma arguing the wisdom of entangling a debate over Obamacare with tax reform.

It didn't really kick in until right when Trump was elected. A lot of people were about to be forced to get shitty coverage, as the penalty was set to begin costing a lot more than opting in.

They will dog and pony this and make news on it not passing (McCain et al) and remove the Ocare mandate repeal. So POTUS has 100 percent political cover (not that he GAS) to write an E.O. repealing the Ocare mandate. It was in the news before the Asia trip he will use his pen if needed.

Does repealing the individual mandate while leaving coverage mandates the same do anything to help premiums?
Surely it will have the opposite effect?

The coverage requirements are the problem.

It’s a poison pill that will scuttle the bill, and get them off the hook.
