Saul Alinsky 101. Overload the System...collapse it..."fundamentally change" it.

It stands to be determined once the collapse kicks in, just what kind of power the *Government* will have. The only powers Government has is either the ability to spend money...or the ability to exercise Military power. If the monetary system crashes...what, will the Government then begin a new round of printing, with different pictures on the Bills? Forget bills...electronic.

I don't know and neither do they. Events and the unforeseen consequences therein will determine the fate of our Nation.

Even if no illegal immigrants took advantage of our entitlement programs, the programs would still be driving us deeper into debt at an accelerating rate. Perhaps if we reformed entitlements, immigrants wouldn't be so incentivized to come here illegally. So no, I don't consider it a "huge" contributing factor.

This idea that immigrants, particularly illegal immigrants aren't contributing to US debt troubles is completely false. If the US stopped illegal immigration and severely limited legal immigration for a few years while at the same time weaning able bodied Americans off entitlements the deficit and debt would start falling precipitously. There are millions of Americans living wholly or partially on government entitlements and I'm not talking about folks over 65.

Only we have to service a mountain of debt now. We can't fund a real war anymore.

Debt service is over $500 billion annually...., it's past being a problem. Remember when a trillion was an unimaginable number? It still is but that's the debt we're dealing with.

I used to think so. Now I know that liberals will do it first.

Obama was definitely worse, but Bush still had no problem with massive deficit spending (and the Dems got to use him as a "see the GOP does it too!" example).

I wish I knew.

When it was 5 trillion, I was nervous. I would have fought you if you'd have said 22T was sustainable.

But it seems to be.

Ok, so is 29T ok? 41T?

When does it sink us?

I love this myth. The 2007 deficit was... $160B.

It already has. We just don’t know it yet. That’s the only thing debt does. Shift the pain from now to later. It doesn’t make it disappear.

Third world immigration will destroy this nation long before the debt does.

The correct answer is that Debt will destroy the currency, Democrat social and economic policy will destroy the country.

No. The next few presidents will see a huge decline of the Baby Boomers. Generation X was much smaller, so SSN and Medicare will be much less of a drag on the budget.

As much as we make fun of Millennials they are already larger than Baby Boomers. They should help start a decline on how much our budget spends on SSN and Medicare.

It's sad that $160B is now considered small.

And that’s when it will start. The second American civil war. The Marxist will try and blame capitalism, even though it’s their entitlement programs that actually are to blame, and the Marxist will try to convert the US to a socialist nation. Socialism can not survive without disarming the public. When they come for the guns, that’s the sign that it’s time to call up the militia and start hunting down those that promote Marxism and the government controlled by the Marxist.

It certainly doesn't help the game we are playing with China. At least we have TRUMP or we'd really be fricked.

yes As soon as the interest on the debt is more than even the military we will be done. There will be no one to bail us out. You can only print worthless paper for so long. Then there will be anarchy with people killing for food and any item worth anything to trade for food. So if you support socialism you will bring this on that much faster! SO SIGN ON FOR THE new green deal!!!!!!!!!!!!!
