I think it would be a solid move before the election. It would be hard for the left to hate on that move unless he tied a bunch of legislation to it. I also think he should pardon a lot of non violent users/dealers. It would save a ton of tax money and potentially shut down a large portion of the cartel's business.

thoughts?

edit: hell, he could use portions of the taxes generated from it to fund his wall.

I would LOVE to see how the left would shift and be against it some how.

I hope so. I have no idea whether it would be a net-gain or net-loss, although I'm sure he's got analysts who do and that will ultimately inform his position.

It would certainly gain a lot of independent votes.

If the Evangelicals can love a notorious philanderer, they can certainly be ok with someone who proposes legalization. What are they going to do, vote for the inevitable far left wing loon the dems are sure to run?

If he did it’d be as a late into his second term. He would risk alienating too many people pushing legalization.

yup, i don't think it would lose many votes on that front. His affairs are usually just ignored or he's called alpha for banging models when he is married. I think the marijuana legalization would make a strong showing that he thinks individual liberty is important. it would also save the taxpayers a ton of wasted revenue on the drug war. it would piss cops off because we probably wouldn't need as many and it would be hard to justify their big budget.

This is the perfect tactic for him. It's a win-win. Dems oppose legalization - they look bad to their constituents. They go along with it - they're forced to praise him for it.

I think the proper move would be to make it legal Federally then let the states decide for themselves.

I personally want no part of it being legal. That being said i think it SHOULD be legal on a federal level.

I would support my state making it legal if they taxed the frick out of it, used that tax money wisely (lol) but also make it to where if you get caught selling it without a proper license you gte hit HARD with fines/jail time. It will help clean some things up

I don't think he would. he made it through the grab em by the pussy, stormy daniels, etc. i think that a lot of folks who are normally against it would be fine with it coming from trump.

i couldn't get behind this. maybe a civil penalty but jail time? you're talking about putting somebody in a cage because they are selling a plant.

Never ever ever ever happen. They will say "long over due if not for the far far right evangelical wing, Americans could have had relief years ago and why now you ask? Well it proves Trump is losing and in a panic."

I think he’ll have to get rid of Sessions first. I’ve never smoked weed in my life, but I’m in favor of legalization. Less crime, and higher local revenue.

Nope. Nonviolents in prison is over stated. Dig into their history and you will find a violent past.

There’s no good reason for him to legalize it. Dope heads are too busy looking for a fix to vote

There's a very simple response to that.

The Dems had 2 years during Obama to push it through and they didn't even attempt it.

I've heard faithful Baptists say they would try it if it were legal. One told me that and he doesn't even drink.

Anecdotal, but they do exist. I think the stigma of the 1970's burnout is going away and people are coming to the realization that continuing to fight it is a waste of time and money.
