It really makes no sense. With John McCain, which the story is clearly intended to be a spin off of, he had already personally gone after Trump. Mocking his capture in Vietnam was Trumps way of jabbing back. The soldiers who lost their lives , who defeated the axis powers, are basically one of the pillars , in Trump’s view, for having pride in the American way of life.
Dude loves a winner, and loves to win. I can see him possibly talking about the other side, in a disparaging tone, but it makes zero sense for him to do that to our guys.

Trump has never, that I can tell, just randomly shite on a group of people viciously, particularly something like veterans or war heroes. It makes no sense and doesn't align at all with his personality. When you see Trump for who he is - a vanity-driven guy who basically loves those who praise him, hates those who criticize him and ignores everyone else - this story doesn't ring true.
