Everything gets more expensive, but median/average salaries should increase at the same rate as well. They haven't, and it's not even close.

As a matter of fact, I just volunteered to reduce my hours at work to 30 a week (25% reduction yearly hours/pay) so that a young co-worker wouldn't be laid off.

I have a mortgage.
I am saying it’s bad for America if people have to get well into 30s for home ownership to be possible

The problem is not that homes are too expensive. Problem is that young people have too many payments and can't qualify for the loan.

Why don't you apply the same sort of personal responsibility mindset to people who bought overvalued assets for too much money and had unrealistic expectations of appreciation?

Unfortunately I don't think it is. People like him aren't interested in actually solving the problem because in their head it can be explained away by dumb tropes like "millennials are just lazy" or "stop drinking a crap-uccino every day and you could afford something!" Meanwhile none of that is rooted in reality
