I am shocked he even had a press conference, I mean really we are talking about the JV as he so eloquently stated.

You have a link for that? Because you have at least 1 fact wrong.

touche. it was a Korean flight - 60 americans, includig a US COngressmen.

quote:

his staff had to beg him to get back to washington, which he finally did several days later when he made his speech.

Again, you got a link for that?

yep. Reagan was on vaca and upon being briefed about the flight, had no intention to end the last week of his 25 day vacation early. He was persuaded to leave the evening of the following day, addressing the nation 4 days later.

quote:

Up to this point, Reagan was on vacation at his Santa Barbara, Calif., ranch. The day that Shultz held his news briefing, White House spokesman Larry Speakes gave a statement to reporters in California.

"The president is very concerned and deeply disturbed about the loss of life aboard the Korean Air Lines flight overnight," Speakes said. "There are no circumstances that can justify the unprecedented attack on an unarmed civilian aircraft. The Soviet Union owes an explanation to the world about how and why this tragedy has occurred."

When asked if Reagan would be returning to Washington, Speakes said he would not.

"There are no plans for the president to return to Washington earlier than anticipated," he said. The president "has every facility, every capacity, every capability to do, perform any function that he could perform in Washington."

About eight hours later, Speakes called the reporters together again and announced that Reagan would return to Washington, D.C., the next day, Friday.

As Reagan was leaving California, he read a brief statement.

''I speak for all Americans and for the people everywhere who cherish civilized values in protesting the Soviet attack on an unarmed civilian passenger plane,'' Reagan said. ''Words can scarcely express our revulsion at this horrifying act of violence."

I love me some Reagan as much as the next guy, but we have to keep things in perspective. Its BS politics.

Hmm. If this is the standard to which we are holding our presidents then Bush pretty much could have never played golf seeing as how he sent thousands of young men to die every day in Iraq for WMD's that never existed.

Get a fricking life tards.

Whew - I was worried for a second - so your whole original post, except for:

quote:

had no intention to end the last week of his 25 day vacation early. He was persuaded to leave

and

quote:

addressing the nation 4 days later.

was completely inaccurate.

He did leave the vacation the day after the shootdown of KAL 007.

quote:

includig a US COngressmen.

Interesting fact about that - he was going to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the mutual defesne treaty - Larry McDonald - on of the last very conservative democrats in congress - he was actually the chairman of the John Birch Society - it was speculated at the time that it was an elaborate assassination by the KGB in altering the flight's path and engineering the shootdown because of McDonald's virulent anti-communist sentiments.

Haven't we found out recently that there were chemical weapons hidden in Iraq that have been used in Syria? We can go round after round about Bush and foreign policy from 12 years ago but lets talk about today and moving forward.

In this situation, anyone that doesn't think that Obama playing golf isn't, at the very least, in the best interest of this situation is delusional. The British PM left his vacation early because the killer has a British accent and he felt it in his best interest to get briefed and get a game plan together. There is a clear lack of leadership in this White House. How can that even be challenged?

Bush quit playing after the war started.

Barry Hussein played his 190th round yesterday, minutes after talking about an American beheaded(possibly by Gitmo detainee that he released). At 4 hours a round(being generous cause it's reported he takes around 5) that's 760 hours of his Presidency on a golf course. And the shite head attends less than 50% of his security meetings. This Commander in Brief is a joke.

youre funny. Did you miss the fact that the accurate parts supported the point i was making?

The only thing i got wrong was the flight and that he didnt leave several days later (he addressed the nation 4 days later, and left after remaining for the most part of 2 full days).

he was briefed morning of, left the next night.

I cannot take seriously an argument that Obama is as good or better than Reagan on foreign policy issues. Reagan is the best foreign policy president of the Cold War - probably ever, but I do give props to FDR for building and maintaining the coalition that beat Hitler.

i never made that assertion. The two arent in the same league.

My point is bashing Obama for this is nothing more than politics and is not unique to any one political party or president.

what frustrates the hell out of me is the hate for this president is so strong that people get caught up in bashing him every chance they get and lose all rationale and objectivity.

You know absolutely nothing about leadership if you think perception doesn't matter. The perception many get, including those who would do us harm, is that Obama gives personal recreation precedence over his primary job responsibility. If you have no problems with that, it is fine. Others are not so sanguine.

Honestly, I'm fine with how much golf Obama plays. Hell, if I had my way he would do nothing but play golf for the next 2 years.

I would argue his actions (or lack of) have created that atmosphere. Hes not vacationing any more than any other president. Much less, in fact than many others.

And as for perception, the last thing you want is to create the perception of a president overracting to everything that occurs internationally, dropping what hes doing to get back to Washington.

Then you have groups and people doing stupid shite just to get that attention, not to mention a president who looks like hes panicing every time something happens.
