Not trying to be rude or negative to you, but I think you are wrong. The higher up the ladder you go in the Catholic faith, the further you get from actually believing in and embracing the Catholic faith. Wish it wasn't so. But a good bishop is something that is growing more and more scarce these days.
Exactly.
Catholics, get your house in order.
Unfortunately the heavy top down structure of the Catholic Church makes it extremely difficult to do so.

And y'all wonder why people hate Catholics.

Thanks for your well-researched opinion.
The Bishop can't say anything nice about a Mosque without triggering the Roman Catholic Haters around here.

Suckers and fools are born every minute. Some of them rise in bureaucracies including the churches.

Why would anybody decide to hate Catholics just because an Archbishop in Detroit said something nice about a Mosque that's in his neighborhood?

A Catholic Archbishop at a Mosque?? Really?
Thou shalt not lie...

quote:This is what led to the New Covenant. The Hebrew faith became no different where the religion superseded the message. Much of Jesus' teachings were against the religion and the laws and interpretations that were adapted and accepted as traditions that must be kept. He taught that the Faith was in the Word, not in the traditions.

A quick bit of research shows that there are now more practicing Muslims in Detroit than there are practicing Roman Catholics.

Which of these traditions of the religion of the ancient Hebrews did Jesus abolish?
1) Love the Lord your God with your whole being
2) Love your neighbor as yourself
3) Obey the Commandments
You said that Jesus preached that the ancient Hebrews should abolish their traditions. Which of these three traditions did Jesus want them to abolish?
Or perhaps the New Covenant includes these particular traditions?

In his first week since being nominated Archbishop of Detroit, Edward Weisenburger denounced Donald Trump’s immigration policies, and criticized the president’s plan to dismantle the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID
quote:
In 2018, Weisenburger suggested that the church should issue “canonical penalties” for Catholics “who are involved in” enforcing Trump-era immigration laws at the border. Canonical penalties can include withholding Holy Communion or excommunication from the Church. “Canonical penalties are there in place to heal,” Weisenburger said at the time. “And therefore, for the salvation of these people’s souls, maybe it’s time for us to look at canonical penalties.”
quote:
In December, Weisenburger expressed his “grave concern” in an op-ed about “the threat of mistreatment of undocumented persons who are our neighbors and contribute to our communities.”
quote:
The Arizona bishop is also an environmental justice advocate. In 2023, he met with a group of bishops at the White House to talk to then-President Joe Biden about the pope’s environmental agenda. In early 2021, Weisenburger closed Catholic Churches in Tucson for one month to slow the spread of Covid.
quote:
The bishop directed priests in his diocese not to grant religious exemption requests for the Covid vaccine.
National Review
Now he says that a mosque is more respectful, nice, and kind than his own church.
And that he feels the presence of God in a mosque.
This man is evil.
Some Catholics have lost the plot.
Good Catholics, don’t try to defend them, don’t try to clarify what they say, don’t make excuses for them.
Call them out for the deceivers they are.

I wonder if he’s called for banning communion for Obama and Biden officials involved in upholding and enforcing abortion laws.

Yes, the written and spoken word of God that was given is obviously what I was referring to when I said He gave direction back to the Word vs the tradition. /s
quote:Very much so the 'traditions of the elders' he rebuked quite often and pointed back to the Word. He preached against Corban (Mark 7), ritualistic cleansing (Matthew 15), lawful sabbath (Luke 6).....
You said that Jesus preached that the ancient Hebrews should abolish their traditions.
The Gospels are pretty clear on where Jesus stood Written/Inspired Word of God =/= Religious Traditions. Religious traditions are not inherently a bad thing, but when a religion puts tradition over the Word or as being on par with the Word, that is where the problem lies.

But the traditions I mentioned are approved by Jesus? There are some traditions of the ancient Hebrews that Jesus wanted us to continue? Is that correct or not?
I think you and I can agree that Jesus teaches that He wants us to continue some of the traditions of the ancient Hebrews.

quote:I'm not sure if this is a gotcha moment by you or an honest misunderstanding of what the written/inspired Word of God is. Everything you are asking about are not traditions, but commands from God. That is not the same as religious traditions. There are written commands that the New Testament spells out as not being applicable under the New Covenant, but those three which Jesus spoke often about are not amongst those.
But the traditions I mentioned are approved by Jesus? There are some traditions of the ancient Hebrews that Jesus wanted us to continue? Is that correct or not?
I'm not trying to be crass, but genuinely wondering where your questions are coming from and what you are struggling to understand.
