DeSantis seems to have forgotten it's the people who should control the party and not the politicians. If the majority of Republican voters want the party to align with Trump then that's what they should do. Ron wants to subvert the will of the people and keep politicians in control of the party.

Honestly, I can't blame him for this. He's a conservative, and thought the Republican party was at least somewhat conservative. You have to admit, it wasn't all that long ago that he was right about that.

It’s hard to imagine ak you seriously. DeSantis is one of the least establishment candidates in terms of actual positions taken (and he actually got those positions legislated as governor).
But because he’s not Trump, you all have to construct a narrative that he’s GOPe or establishment (or whatever dumb appellation without definition you want to throw at him).
And when it comes down to policy, the average Trumper attacks Ron’s policies as being too conservative. But that doesn’t happen often because it’s dangerous to actually talk policy as a Trump supporter. There’s no there there.

I think you are confused. It isn't that people are confusing conservatism. It is that the GOP base is fricking tired of the lies, tired of the "principled conservative" that will gladly sign away at increased spending, increase regulation, or increased immigration at the expense of the regular American citizen.
So trump came in with the "make America great again" slogan. Was an "American First" position that hard to like? Was it conservative, hell no. However, don't act like we've had real conservatives in power in the last 30 years. We absolutely have not.
Trump's base was sick and tired of the bullshite spewing out of DC. That is why he has the following. It wasn't because he was conservative, it was because he wanted what was best for the avg American. He called out the bullshite in DC and people loved him for it. Do not act like we've forgotten about the 2019 economy. He had America moving again. No one ever said it was conservative, but again, the GOP hasn't been conservative in 34 years.
